Forums - Sales - PS3 will never beat 360 this generation.

i want this thread to be closed...there's no point in having to continue this heated debate after such discussion to death. And these fanboy's speculations are stupid while ignoring facts.

Ok, well, it's been another week and guess what? The PS3 got another .1% of marketshare.

The PS3 continues to edge up in marketshare, conquering the planet at a slow pace lol.

Very pedestrian pace.

It won't last.

2009 is sonys year IMO in terms of hardware sales. (thanx to them desperately bringing the launch date of the slim forward by about 2 years)

2010 Microsoft will have sony on the ropes, 2011 sony will have already been on the canvas 2 times, and in 2012-2013 microsoft will deliver the knockout blow.

You are annoying as hell, I have been reading your posts on this thread and they made a bit of sick in my mouth.I have been gaming for over 10 years now and i can safely say this,Microsoft has runied this console generation, creating ingnorant and loud fanboys like yourself that give gaming a bad name. If you actually were not a peasant and bought a ps3 you would see that the ps3 is better in most aspects. Seen as you can only afford one console i cant take you oppinion seriously. You honestly think a horribly generic survival horror game called Alan wake is gonna shift hw....yeah good luck with that mate. As for halo franchise, odst was the biggest waste of my hard earned cash. A lame storyline with 3 year old graphics engine.GOW 3 will shift consoles.all my mates are getting a ps3 for gow 1 and 2,god knows how much the third game will sell.

oh and after i cleared the sick in my mouth i read your last line and laughed. What will microsofts knockout blow be???

I'm amazed how people still think microsoft can afford to just cut the price of their console which they recently did and it didn't affect the slim's sales as much as expected...even with natal coming and increasing the costs would it really be wise to cut the price again? I doubt microsoft is in the console-business just to throw away money, no matter how much some people want 360 to beat the ps3 MS has to make money to survive, this should be their priority as a business.

I've understood that their 360 arcade-console is being sold at loss allready, would they really want to go further in the red just like sony did with slim? I doubt sony will cut their console price anymore so there shouldn't be a need to make the current consoles any cheaper than needed for either business they could as well give them for free.

When it comes to games both consoles have some pontential system sellers and the only place ps3 can't catch the 360 is the US.

don't be silly slowmo. Thats a stupid bet. First of all the mods wouldnt enforce it. Secondly whos to say either one of you will be around in another 3 years. Lastly, even if the Ps3 outsells the 360 LT whos to say you wont be like "lol ps3 didnt outsell the 360 last genertion because the generation ended when the 360 stopped selling"

How about by 1 January 2011 the 360 will have outsold the PS3 ww, thats not 3 years.  Perhaps it couldn't be enforced by the mods I really don't know but I'd still bet every vg$ I had on it happening.  His statement implied weekly sales not LTD figures, hence the stupidity of the statement.  Shows you the mindset of these forums when not one of you people posting after his post criticize it for being silly yet pickup on the guy calling it out for being crazy.  As somebody moved these forums over to SDF recently?

The sales gap between PS3 and 360 has fallen by 1 million in only 5 weeks since the PS3 price drop. Huge Xmas sales period for PS3 should easily see another 2 or 3 million erased from the deficit to close out 2009. Gap between PS3 and 360 to be down to 4.25 to 5.25 million by 31 December 2009.

The XBox 360 is not expected to have price drops until sometime in 2010. The console sales gap will be erased completely by the time a $149 XBox 360 Arcade appears September 2010. The $149 XBox 360 will have little impact on XBox 360 sales. PS3 has a lot of exclusive games that will boost its sales, whereas the XBox 360 only has Halo:Reach. Project Natal unknown and untested - I would not hold my breath on that really catching on.

The writing is clearly on the wall. The XBox 360 will never outsell the PS3 in weekly sales ever again. Game Over XBox 360. The PS3 wins.

you are an embarrassment to sony fans.

the ps3 is outselling the 360 by around 80k a week.  there are about 10 weeks to go until year's end.  these numbers put the ps3 gaining around a million units.  in order to gain between 2 or 3 million by yr end means that the ps3 would need its holiday spike to be its biggest yet while the 360 has no spike.  do you really believe this will happen?  if so you are more delusional than i thought.

will the ps3 outsell the 360 for the rest of the year?  yes.

will it have a higher total sales for 2009?  yes.

will it have a much bigger holiday spike that the 360?  yes.

will it close the gap to within 5 million units?  not a fucking chance in hell.

i think people are forgetting just how big a million units is.  with all the dominance the gap is still over 7 mill.  even if we put the christmas spike peaking at 1 million units a week, that still would probably only cut another million off the gap.  you can expect the 360 to do at least what it's been doing for christmas.  there is just not enough time in the year to do what you hope it will.  now by the end of next year is a different ballgame.

The 360 is now dead last every week, even in its own territory.

People thinking PS3 is not taking over are the same people who bought a HDDVD drive for their 360 believing it was the future.

Actually, PS3 Slim sales are quite disappointing if Pachters NPD predictions are correct. After so much hype it will barely top the 360. Thats with free Blu Ray, free wi-fi, and free online compared to 360, and no RROD. What else could Sony do?

And that's Slim's first month. It can only fall from here most likely. Will it even win October? November? December? I'll bet that it wont.

And I'll tell you another thing, Microsoft is gradually training people that 360 should cost the same as PS3. PS3 and 360 with 120GB hard drive cost exactly the same. Yet 360 is not drowning. I mean to me, that's amazing. 360 is supposed to cost way less than PS3 in order to sell. Soon people will just expect that 360 and PS3 are the same price, and 360 will still win.

Time will tell, but i remembered the PS3 will sell like HOTCKAES chant with a price cut...not so much in NA, and even in PAL...I remember when 360 use to get outsold by a much larger margin.  Minus Japan, the PS3 Slim isn't really able to catch the 360...and people keeping overlooking a glaring point of what it took sony to GET o this point...namely a redesign console.  To treat the situation as if it's a static one, with M$ and Nintendo having no response is riddiculous.  M$ still has to launch a 45nm chipset, and still has Natal to launch, so the question is how close can Sony get, before M$ drops the price, and launches a possible game changer, other than the eventual price chop to $249 and $179.

at a certain point Microsoft would not be able to drop the price any more, there is only so much further that it could drop. a great example:

the PS2 IS NOW $100.00 FOR A SYSTEM THAT'S ALMOST 10 YEAR'S OLD

at a point the systems price will stay and that is going to happen to the xbox360 before the PS3.

once that happens, that's it and right now the xbox360 is nearing that point. the xbox360 most likely will remain at the $150.00+ mark for qite some time.

The 360 had a $100 price cut, not a "barely any price cut if any at all" ..

also, pachter's predictions shouldn't even be used to determine sales, because a prediction can be completely off..

The U.S is a hard area for the PS3, since its already with its 360 bias, and ofcourse the wii. Everywhere else though, i see no reason why the PS3 shouldn't continue to outsell the 360 (only in the UK were the ps3 is still very expensive).

WHat 360 bias are you talking about?

First of all Sony has lost much more money on their current gen console than MS. Plus with many arcade owners buying overpriced HDD, XBL, Wifi MS is able to make a profit. With decreasing PS2,PSP sales and on top the slim bleeding money from sony, Ms can easily cut the price of the 360.

So just because sony lost more money than MS this gen, that means MS can cut the price? That makes no sense whatsoever. Also no one knows just how much the PS3 slim is losing.

also Microsoft has to buy the components from other companies, the hardware still is produced FOR Microsoft, NOT BY Microsoft. that's the problem, Microsoft is a software company not a Hardware company, so there is only so much that Microsoft would be able to cut from the overall cost of the xbox360, because the part's are outsourced.
