This one is awesome. Dunno what price you might find it for though.

My brother bought that exact same one for his PS3.

I just inherited some money and I want to splash out somewhat. This is where I need some good old CVG help. I want a PS3 and an HD TV. No one I know has a big-ass HD TV, so I'm not very knowledgeble on the matter. My requirements:

-Obviously the highest supported resoltion

-a Trusted brand would be nice

-highest end is not an option. Here in South Africa the price I'm looking for is 4x the price of a new PS3 (that ok by the way?)

-sometimes if it's too big then its overkill

If there's anything else then please let me know. This TV will probably be around for a LONG time, so it needs to be good. And I DEFINITELY want to WOW my guests ;P

Thanks for the help guys.

I have a Vizio and love it. Not sure if the brand is available there, but it performs as well as the major brands and a fraction of the cost.

I am cool with my 42" size. Sometimes, I wouldn't mind a bigger TV, but 42" is fine.

What about features? How many HDMI slots?

Also something else to consider - LEDs. They are very sweet and the price on them is dropping fast.

Buy HDMI cables off monoprice.com for like $5 a set shipped.

Sony (LCD), Samsung (LCD, LED), Panasonic (plasma) for TV.

As for sound, Klipsch, Harman/Kardon, JBL, and Onkyo are all great. God help you if you fall into the Bose hype.

Edit: If you like Blue touch of color over red (I sure do!)

good, meh, good but not a fan, toss up (they make good receivers, don't know about the speakers) and Bose does suck to high heavens though.

Just be prepared to spend over $2k for a decent system from any of them + add the cost of a reciever. Even then and you are only scratching the surface in terms of quality. Anything less and you might as well buy Bose.

Anyways, there are some decent HTIB (Home Theater In a Box) systems for under $600, but the next jump up would be a speaker set for $600 and a cheap amplifier for $300.

You really need to give more information than "I'm looking for a TV and sound system" Even a rough budget would help peice something together along with what you would prefer focus to be on, visuals or sound quality. I know you said $1200 for a TV, but what is your goal for the sound system? Stereo, 5.1, 6.1, 7.1?

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy
