| Zargeras said: DLC fucked up my gaming desire and is pretty much the sole reason I haven't bought a nex gen system yet. Even though I may buy a PS3 soon, cant almost fight the urge anymore! I am person who always wants the whole 100% of the expirience and with DLC that would just cost me to much since I MUST have it or else I kinnda dont feel like playing the game, I feel like I am missing out, not getting the full expirience. The same with movies, for example if I am about to watch a movie I always check up if there is a Directors cut or some other cut with extra scenes in it. I cant watch a normal cut of the movie if there is another longer cut out there or If feel like I am missing out:( Same with music. I always MUST have extra Deluxe edition etc, If I don't have all the possible tracks I feel like I am missing out. I hardly buy a CD these days since almost every artist puts out a different version of the CD with extra tracks like twice a year, It just costs me to much to upgrade all the time But I think I am a rare case and its a supply and demand buisness and clearly there is a demand. |
Yeah. You have issues you may want to think about.
It depends what kind of DLC it is. For example: I'm not gonna buy the extra costumes in Street Fighter IV; the game experience doesn't change. It's the same fucked up thing as secondlife and other internet based games where you have to pay for everything; clothes, furniture.... WTF? I'm not going to pay cash for in game clothes.
Maybe map packs are nice for people who really like their shooter. Most of the time I play a shooter for a couple of months and then I'm gonna buy another game which is a totally new experience, but I can see the reason that people who play hundreds of hours COD or Halo wan't a change in scenery.
And then there are the DLC I do like: complete new chapters of a game like Fallout 3 and GTA IV. Those are imho really an add-on, the same as 10 years ago before the DLC even was born.
DLC if done right is good.
If done wrong there needs to be a public outcry and some serious complaining to the developers/publishers. More likely the publishers as they usually make the decisions on money making, and that's really what DLC is. For instance, Day 1 DLC shouldn't really exist, or at the very least should be free. Another example is trying to get people to pay for simple aesthetic things like Horse Armor.
DLC should really be more of an expansion/add-on with new levels, some new art, new items/weapons, new maps and areas and possibly new game modes.
