Forums - Gaming - What if all gaming went digital? Will they all flop? since "PSP Go flopped"

@Crashdown: DD only have worked in mobile phones for ages. So PSP Go seems to be the first second DD only platform after Zeebo (if not counting iQue, which required you to download the games in a store).

Ei Kiinasti.

Eikä Japanisti.

Vaan pannaan jalalla koreasti.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

The console is smaller than a DS, people like hardware redesigns like that, not just for the added specs.

I'm a Digital Distribution supporter, but as an OPTION, if i want to buy the game, music, movie, etc. in physical format i should be able to do so...

That being said, i think home consoles will not go digital, every time the bandwith grows, the game size grows as well, so unless bandwith wins that race bringing full retail games in less than half hour, games will still come in physical format...

My idea for a console is one that has an optical slot (BR, DVD, CD, etc.) and USB ports for multipurpose, a Flash Memory slot (propietary to avoid piracy, at least for a while) for full retail games, and Digital Distribution for all other games (indie, arcade, short, etc.)... But i don't think flash memory console games will be a reality considering the cost...

We won't be seeing an Online Distribution console for quite some time. THe average bandwidth in most countries is [including the main territories] is way to low. Even crazy man Kaz acknowledged that most people don't want to download ps3 sized games.

I agree with this.

But i do believe all games will be available to DD in the next gen of consoles

DD is gaining popularity and the PSPgo will is a very good way to determine just that.

btw: Happy bithday

That I'm sure will happen. I wish it had happened this gen so I could have had demon's souls already. Sadly I won't have it until some time next week...

Jajajajajajajajajajaja, BTW, i have that model, well, the only thing that the oldest PS3 doesn't have is retail games in propietary flash memory, although, it has flash card readers XD XD

"All gaming" WON'T go DD until it is proven to be successful.
No company will base it's entire next 5 year plan on an idea that was tried only once, and failed that time.
DD should prove itself first, and the whole industry would follow later.

But even if one would, there would be still other two consoles, and yes, I believe that if there would be one DD console, and two traditional ones, or even 2 DD and one traditional, the DD system would lower its chances in success.

lol well would you prefer PS3 games to be on propietary flash memory? (kinda defeats the purpose of PS3 on BR lol)  I could see them putting older games like PS1 & PS2 would be nice since they dont have BWC anymore, but then again there's no more flash card readers lol.

DD is inevitable though I suspect we won't see the over the hill transition until the next iteration of the Internet.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

The PSP Go is likely to show all three that we're not ready for this. Look at the Wii. It had to be a rousing success to get the copycat mentality it got. If it sold PSP Go like we wouldn't be having the wand and natal coming out in the future. The current model for distributing games works just fine for the game makers, and adding a digital option gives them all of the benefits of DD with none of the drawbacks. The only reason Sony did it was because they needed a way to make the PSP significantly smaller. Consoles don't really have this problem since you don't expect to fit them in your pocket in the first place.

Before full priced digital gaming takes off, the movie industry will have to have done it successfully first, and they're nowhere even close to getting there.
