Forums - Sony - Upgrading my HDD...recommendations?

Using a 7200 rpm hhd will not hurt anything. I've been using one for 1 and a half years.

Wait, wait, wait, this is for the PS3???

I just bought a brand new 320GB hard drive for my PS3 off of Ebay for 30 bucks. But I'm not sure how reliable the guy is yet because I haven't actually gotten the item yet.

You could probably try finding some on ebay.

@acetech

is it louder? and does it heats noticeably more?

fat ps3 is so loud, even louder than my beamer...

ATTENTION:
IF THIS IS FOR PS3 DO NOT GO TO MY LINKS. PS3 NEEDS A LAPTOP (2.5") HD. NORMAL HARD DRIVES WILL NOT WORK.

Revolutions Per Minute

It's just how fast the disk spins in the hard drive, the faster it spins the quicker the information gets sent or received. The only advantage a 7200 RPM hard drive would have on the PS3 is when you have to Install some games, it'll be slightly faster on a 7200 RPM HDD then a 5400 RPM HDD. Not really worth it in my mind, theres barely any games that require installing, and it's not that big of a difference. A 5400 RPM would be cheaper anyway so.

Revolutions Per Minute: the number of complete revolutions the disks make every minute. Higher = faster read/write speed, noisier, more heat producing.

Once again, if this is for PS3, make sure you get a notebook drive.
