Forums - Sony - MW2 PS3 version

There was lag in every single CoD4 online game i played on the PS3, no matter if we all had perfect pings or crap ones. And the colour of the bar had little to no affect on the difference of the lag on a regular basis. The lag never affected all the shots or movements, but in all games where you had to shoot that guy an extra time or he got the jump on you when you were waiting for him to pop out from around a corner, thats lag. Maybe you guys never killed enough or shot enough to notice this

When I have full ping on the PS3 version, that never happens. Care to explain why?

Both CoD 4 and 5 were equal when it came to campaigns. The 360 had a slightly better graphics version but not noticeable.

It is the online part that really determines these games. CoD 4 and 5 both had much better online play on Xbox Live and I expect the same to be true of MW2. The reason is because on Xbox Live MS handles everything and it just works right in with MS's matchmaking system. On PSN Infinity Ward has to develop all that themselves and host any servers themselves.  And I am speaking from experience with both PS3 and 360 versions of MW and WaW.  The PS3 version was far laggier online and had more server/host disconnects.

So that would be the difference. If you have both consoles and value online play above all else, you should almost always get the 360 version, and I am willing to bet it will be the same with MW2 as well.

i owned both cod4 and cod5 on ps3, and have played both on 360 online. they were both the same

I will show you the Facts.

Xbox 360 :

More / Better Players(Opinion) , Better Community(Opinion) , Better Controller (Opinion) , Better ONLINE (Opinion)--> Xbox Live (Parties , LagLESS , Not host disconects all the Time9(Opinion) , Xbox Live is just the best online service out there(Opinion) ... it only does everything(not really) , easy conections with all your friends , Timed Exclusive DLC)(batman? ghostbusters?) and ALSO Xbox 360 is the Lead Development Console.(final fantasy 13??)

PlayStation 3 :

Free Online and its just  as good as Xbox Live.

Thats it.

FIXED

Wow, what is it recently? 360 / PS3 fans arguing about everything since the Slim hit (I mean worse than usual).

on CoD4 IW had development team on each console, neither was the lead and they had the PC guys as well. The result? Game was the same (minor differences in rendering due to different GPUs, etc) on 360 / PS3.

Online was also the same in my experience. Both could show lag, etc. depending upon where you where, connection, other players, etc. I have seen no evidence that, in equal circumstances, online wouldn't perform equally well.

The only difference I saw was the slightly better party/online elements Live offered, which were nice but certainly not a huge difference.

With WaW, I saw the 360 version turn out slightly better, which I expected from Treyarch (not IW developed remember) although their PS3 skills (not doubt aided by better cross-platform engine from IW for CoD4) looked to have much improved from their fairly rubbish job on PS3 version of CoD3.

Online I saw the same as with CoD4 - worked fine depending upon variable elements and no major difference.

So, can someone tell me why there is any reason to suppose that IW haven't taken the same approach for MW2 - i.e. no lead platform, separate focused teams, goal of delivering parity across each system with a slightly buffed PC version?

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Wasn't Infinity Ward developing MW2 using PS3 as lead platform?

No, the 360 is the lead platform for Modern Warefare 2.

What is this nonsense you posted.  Servers?  They are both player hosted.  Matchmaking is identical of both systems.

What you posted is fabricated tripe.  No offence.

Totally agree, I have played Cod 4 and WAW on both 360 and PS3, they both are EXACTLY the same online, lag happens on both depending on who the host is and what their connection is like.

Both versions should be the same....

It's just the lead console I believe. The PS3 version will be fine though.

You are mistaken... there is no "lead console"... both are developed at the same time by two diffrent teams sharing art assets and such... this allows the larger PS3 team to work with the strengths of the PS3 so it doesn't look like dog crap next to the much developer friendly 360.... in short there is nothing to worry about... Activision puts great efforts and likely a great deal more money into the PS3 version of the game.

No, the 360 is the lead platform for Modern Warefare 2.

Do you have a source for that?  My understanding with CoD4 is there was no lead platform, and that there is no lead platform for MW2 - i.e. they do not produce a code base on one console and port to the other, instead two teams work at the same time on each version with a core asset, etc. team supporting that.

EDIT: sorry, didn't notice identical response above.

Maybe it is just my area then.... weird.... although I've heard other people say similar experiences but it must be in the minority.  I guess if you live in Indiana get the 360 version!
