And I disagree. Trophies are not really icons. They are a much detailed grading system then just numbers can ever be. For example I look at someone's trophy card and I get a better idea of what sort of gamer they are. If I see someone having double the number of trophies then someone else but only half the number of platinum trophies, I can say that the former is a better completionist while the latter plays a larger number of games. Then again there is the level system that I can attain by gaining enough trophies. The trophy system is able convey more information by breaking itself upto convey quantity as well as quality. The achievements just look like a mess of points.

I have a lower Gamerscore than most in the league, but my overall completion rate is above most people at 86%, so you're wrong.
With this im mind, Borderlands is a MUST HAVE game for me...it looks fun, and if I can get easy achievements, all the better!
Interesting article, the thought of types of achievements selling units never crossed my mind.
I guess showing others your score in video games has helped people inflate their egos for decades, from the three initials 80's arcades let you put in to HD console achievement scores.
Yeah well achivements are great and this is believeable.

I also prefer buying 360 over PS3 when it comes to multi-plats, even when the PS3 version is technically better. It's more of a feeling of wholeness. 360 has them for all games and knowing that the PS3 is lacking them in older games makes me want the 360 version. Even though i don't play the games I buy much, I like to know that they are there if I do. It's also hard for me to want to play a game with no Achievements, just because it's not documented in what I did, for other people to see. The whole Achievement concept has made it hard for me to play my large backlog of Xbox/PS2/Gamecube games
My pecking order, when buying multi-plat games:
- Better pre-order bonus. If bonus DVD is Blu-ray, I get the PS3 version.
- Same pre-order bonus, buy 360 version.
- If none of the above, buy 360 version when discounted.
The achievement completion rates aren't exactly all that accurate. I downloaded Family Game Night assuming that I'd get the game for free since it was a free download but then I later on found out that I had to buy all the games individually and I just said screw that. Now I'm stuck with a 0/1400 (since it's a collection of 7 hasbro games) in that game even though I didn't actually buy at least one freakin game from those 7. It's negatively effecting my completion rate. lol. Who else got suckered into downloading Family Game Night thinking they were gonna get a free game (like Aegis Wing and Dash of Destruction are)? I know I'm not the only one.
