Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo cancelled Headstrong title to focus on lifestyle games

Check out these excerpts from the resume of developer John Bye...

John then moved on to Headstrong Games, where he worked as a designer on an unreleased Wii title for Nintendo. As well as designing numerous levels, he also contributed to game design and balancing. Sadly Nintendo eventually pulled out of publishing the title as their focus switched to lifestyle and casual games.

-----

John is now working on another exciting new Wii project at Headstrong.

I don't know what that project is from the first blurb, but I'm happy to see that Headstrong is working on something else for the Wii right now. Anyone care to venture a guess at either blurb?

I'd fathom a guess and say it was Battalion Wars 3, kinda sad really..

What would Headstrong have to do with BWIII? I thought Kuju did BWii

This isn't going to go over well though. Any kind of evidence that Nintendo's not publishing core games in favor of non-core games only feeds the flames.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Or rather, it justifies peoples' opinions of Nintendo.

what games has headstrong made?

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy
In the past we played games. In the future we watch games. - Forest-Spirit

So they are third party. No big deal to me if Nintendo decided that they weren't making a good game for the money they would be spending.

"Sadly Nintendo eventually pulled out of publishing the title as their focus switched to lifestyle and casual games" - this is a resume, so that's John Bye's explanation as to why Nintendo decided not to publish the title. Maybe Nintendo just didn't like the game?

Headstrong *is* Kuju.

As for the OP: does it make any sense at all to make a judgment based on what one dev stats on his resume, considering Nintendo is still making core games??

Problem is, core doesn't equal quality, and core doesn't equal sales...

I remember that years ago, many fans were sad that the "Raven Blade" project by Retro was cancelled, but a few months ago, the Retro heads told in interviews that the game was simply awful, and that it was a good decision to forget about it, so... unless we see it and we really know if it matters or not, we just have to trust Nintendo's decision... (even if these days, they don't decide to localize every good Wii core game, as we all know...)

Maybe the project will be improved, and Sega will finance it? If it's really worth it, it may happen...

Good news is that something new is comin' from the studio anyway... i've really enjoyed HotD Overkill: even if it was only a rental, it was a very good one... i'll buy it in 2nd hand, or if it finally gets a pricecut in Europe... (good, ok, but not worth 50 euros, imho)
