Forums - Nintendo - Reggie: They fired their bullet and our gun is loaded and ready to fire

I kind of read it as Reggie saying MS only had the one bullet and Nintendo had many.....perhaps unrevealed?

OMG you heard it here first October Surprise!!!

...that was a joke for those who don't know =P

Anyways, on a serious note. I like the fact that Reggie gets out there and makes some comments every month to let folks know they are still thriving, but I don't really think it is wise for him to pick at MS or Sony. I think he should focus on why Nintendo has a great product and let the comparison stand on its own. That has worked really well so far and I don't see a reason to suspect it can't continue. But more importantly it shows that he isn't even worried about that them and feels no need to address their presence at all.

And what exactly would you like them to say? I feel Reggie handled the situation cleverly without being too dismissive (not adressing it at all) or too confrontational (outright attacking the 360). PR is a delicate balance and its not always about desperately trying to counter everything the competition does. Nintendo is perhaps the most aware of anyone just how fragile their lead is and have spoken publically of this caution time and time again. If Nintendo doesn't say anything, people will say they're overconfident. If Nintendo says something, people say they're overconfident. It's really a no win from this vantige point of criticism.

Ther're getting cocky.. its not good to get cokcky...(look at what happened to sony.) I know FOR SURE PS3 WILLL TAKE OVER NOVEMBER 17TH(If not earlier) World wide. None of you believe me and think Im a maniac but it will happen. Outselling wii and the 360.

Cocky? So when Sony PR says "they don't buy exclusivity, they earn it" and "That Gamers will see that fun is all in the EYE of the beholder", that's not cocky, but when Reggie makes a clever quip to address a delicate situation he's suddenly drunk with power?

Leo-j, the real question is whether the PS3 will outsell the PS2.

Wait...what? You think that if Nintendo doesn't say anything people will read that as being overconfident? How do you figure? That makes no sense at all.

As far as what I think he should of said...allow me to quote my post that you have already quoted to give you that answer.....

"I think he should focus on why Nintendo has a great product and let the comparison stand on its own."

Anyways, I'm not sure how much you keep up with these forums, but I have pointed out a few times recently that Nintendo is aware that they need to not get cocky, so I am well aware of that.

I wasn't trying to say that I thought Nintendo was getting cocky, but that they didn't need to engage in this type of rhetoric. I think they can take the high road to reinforce their public image and avoid stepping into the PR smack-talk ring with MS & Sony. Because I think MS & Sony benefit from that image and the Wii does not.

To Each Man, Responsibility

What Reggie said sounds arrogant at first, but it's actually a very good analogy of the situation. Everyone knows Halo 3 is the Xbox 360's biggest title, but it only made the console #1 in worldwide hardware sales for two weeks. Sales are still good, but where will they stabilize? This is not a rhetorical question, as I really have no idea. =P

The Wii has several of its biggest titles coming up in the next few months, a few of which might well sell more than Halo 3, and sales didn't even slow down all that much during the long wait for them. Shoving all of their greatest games into a single 4 month long time period can be a very bad idea, but it might be a good one as well, as I don't think anyone has tried it before.

The PS3 is looking a lot worse if you ask me, but it still has several chances to start turning things around, the next two being the soon starting holiday shopping frenzy, and the launches of GTA4 and MGS4 early next year.

Microsoft won a few weeks with their biggest game (of the entire console possibly), but now it's Nintendo's turn to show all they got, and Sony's a while later.

It's true; Microsoft has fired. It's time for Nintendo and Sony to fire their guns.

The real question is - will Sony's gun still be pointed at their ragged feet?

I say Nintendo's gun has one round in the chamber and about six blanks.

The round
Mario Galaxy

The Blanks
BattalionWarsII
Sonic&Mario:At The Olympics
FireEmblem:RadiantDawn
NightsIntoDreams
ResidentEvil:UmbrellaChronicles
SoulCaliber:Legends

The line-up is decent but as far as muscle is concerned Nintendo has only one real bullet. The other titles will no doubt have an impact on the market but by no means are they going to inflict any real damage.

None of the blanks are going to ship any real additional hardware units this fall. Meaning Nintendo really only has one in the chamber the others will simply stur up the market a bit giving Nintendo some decent profits.

I think all the blanks are likely to sell about 500K to a mill this fall. But none will truly have the impact to compare them to Halo as a bullet!

Well, every blank you listed I am looking forward to and buying   8)

I think people are forgetting Nintendo's biggest bullet which is a price drop. Sony & Microsoft have been dropping prices and it hasn't impacted Wii sales at all. Imagine what will happen when Nintendo is able to increase supply immensely and drop the price of the Wii. Sales will sky rocket. Mario will just be the first bullet, then Wii Fit, then Brawl and eventually (not looking likely to happen anytime soon due to demand exceeding supply) the bullet that could kill off the console war a price drop.

@Joelcool7:

I fail to see how Nintendo needs to, or even can, increase hardware sales in the US when they're supply constrained there. Besides, in this situation, it's pretty much impossible to tell whether a title gave hardware a boost or not...
