Forums - Gaming - The best videogame franchise this generation

Uncharted of course!

Around the Network

This is so subjective...makes it hard to come up with anything but a popularity contest I would think.

To use what little objective (I use that word very loosely, I know) measures we have, , I'd argue that new IP wise, the Gears of War series will rank close to the combined metascores of Uncharted and will have sold (when all is said and done) significantly more units, and therefore is more deserving of the title best franchise this gen.

That is NOT going to be a popular answer I'd guess though. Plus if Modern Warfare 2 gets rated as high as I'd expect, the same criteria (combo of sales and meta score) could be used to define it as the best franchise...

Mass Effect.......when it released , the J man couldnt believe the storytelling and the cinematics done in this game. From the paladin/renegade system to the living breathing characters and worlds , mass effect raised the bar in storytelling......a bar which hasnt been met by any other game even to this day.

ME=Cinematic Masterpiece

Agreed. ME raised the bar in storytelling and ME2 will jump over it.

There are MANY IMO, but my favorite new IP so far is still Condemned. While I await HEAVY RAIN, that's the way it'll probably stay.

CGI knows his stuff ^ Condemned: Criminal origins is an AMAZING game.

Condemned has so many stand out moments, and its EASILY the scariest and most psychologically intimidating game this gen.

Dead Rising won it for me due to the sheer variety of imaginative ways that you can kill a zombie, and the fact that if you want to see everything (all cutscenes and outcomes) you have to play it multiple times.

Both CGi and Ronster know their stuff...Condemned is the best survival horror game this gen. The gen started with a bang for survival horror fans...too bad its been a bore since.

Also, dead rising is the best and most original sandbox game imo this gen.

As far as best franchise, its hard to ignore Gears and COD despite me not being a fan of either...simply due to massive appeal they have.

And those mentioning Uncharted...while part 2 looks like GOTY material, part 1 was about as original as Madonna has been in the 2000s. I played part 1 and while its a fun game...you can't be the best franchise by polishing up recycled gamplay elements like that.

Dead Rising has it all............... Memorable bosses like Adam the mad clown, memorable cutscenes, memorable ways to dispose of a zombie, memorable humour like sticking traffic cones on zombies heads then taking a picture.

Bottom line__________________ for me is that Dead Rising is the best sandbox game out there this gen and everyone who is a sandbox fan needs to put down their copies of saints row and crackdown and play this masterpeice....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My favorite open-world game this gen is Oblivion, though I guess it's arguable if you can call it "sandbox" or not. Otherwise, I think Dead Rising is the most innovative sanbox game this gen currently has.

I'm with you on Dead Rsinig been innovative, pure class it is.

As for open world games......... i unfortunately can't get in to my RPG's (i tried Fable II, it hasn't gone well lol)

I know oblivion is class based on both reviewers and gamers alike having so much respect for it.

No suprises here........... my fave open world game of ALL TIME is...................... The mighty Shenmue

Interesting, though I have another: http://www.ugo.com/games/video-game-hotties/images/entries/isabella-dead-rising.jpg

Isabella Keyes and Jessica McCarney sandwich......................... JOYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

Wii Sports.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

I'd go with either Gears of War for pushing online co-op or CoD as all four have been fantastic FPS (about to be 5).

Uncharted looks like it will be a great series this gen.
Call of Duty.
Gears.
I'm anticipating the new Zelda as well.
MGS I guess, if Rising is any good.
Elder Scrolls needs another game in the series!

My favorite series has got to be Viva Pinata. Though I do think the best new series is Uncharted. And the best returning series has got to be Halo
