What is there to not ignore. We have a defector spouting a theory. This same guy had a theory that BluRay would be like totally dominant. The story is that Toshiba got a new friend, and Sony lost a loyalist. They lost a lot of bragging rights. So ask yourself how much faith you have in this prediction given the track record, and the theorists financial bias. Oh yeah like he is going to say I think this format is going to fail, and not get overwhelming support.

People are ignoring the salient facts in the original article. This is a public relations disaster for Sony. They lost exclusive support of their product, and now have to eat dual support.

There goes Dodece again, trying logic and reasoning. I hate to be the bearer of bad news. Your first attempt in the post went zinging by and the fanboy bullets kept flying. Good luck getting anyone to actually read your well thought out, reasonable posts.

I will add to this that I appreciate Dodece's posts. They're always well thought out and insightful. I know it may seem like you're talking to a brick wall in here (I get the feeling a lot) but rest assured there are some of us who agree with your posts and find them illuminating.

Like how most are saying in this thread. Its not bad if most that don't own a 360. But if Microsoft allows developers to use the HD-DVD Player for games, then its a whole different story. I would lose mad respect for them. But if not, well everything is good with Microsoft.

I doubt they would.

Plus no dev is dumb enough to limit their user base like that.

Interesting but one major roadblock I see with regard to using HD DVD for XBox360 games, is that the HD DVD drives which have been sold so far are only half the speed of the PS3's Blu-Ray drive.

Also developers would probably still have to worry about breaking up their games to span on multiple regular DVDs, so that defeats many of the benefits provided by the larger storage media. Developers are still likely to make sacrifices.

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."

PS3 vs 360 sales

If they ever release a HD-DVD enabled 360, I'm predicting that it will be a monumental flop:

1)The 'average joe' consumer couldn't care less about high definition movies, and will have no interest in a higher priced 360.

2)The home theater buff consumer will shun it because of the lack of "next-gen" (Dolby Digital True-HD, DTS-HD, DTS-MA, multichannel PCM) capability on the 360's part, as well as the fact that the stand-alone hd-dvd players will probably be cheaper.

I suppose it would also depend on exactly how much more it would cost - if it was, say, $30-40 or so more, it might work...but if they choose to add close to the price of the add-on to the console, it won't work.

They didnt say it was a 360. What if it is a new machine an announcement in 09 could mean release in 11?
