I find this interesting as it probably means Best Buy / Game Stop are the best customers for Microsoft and Sony given the different clientele the stores and products appeal to

That is interesting... it's also interesting just based on the fact that NPD doesn't track it.  Meaning depending on how they have their estimating calculations set up they may need to "tweak" them.

Of course i wonder how he means "best".  It could just mean they buy the most... and not have any relation to sony or microsoft.

That's what I was thinking.

Switch Code: SW-7377-9189-3397 -- Nintendo Network ID: theRepublic -- Steam ID: theRepublic

Now Playing
Switch - Super Mario Maker 2 (2019)
3DS - Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney (Trilogy) (2005/2014)
Mobile - Yugioh Duel Links (2017)
Mobile - Super Mario Run (2017)
PC - Borderlands 2 (2012)
PC - Deep Rock Galactic (2020)

NPd estimates Wal Mart thoroughly though..I even heard they hav a consumer panel of 30k who track everything they purchase at Wal Mart..not just video games. Also something about NPD then simulates a Wal Mart store through this method. Wal Mart also used to be a NPD client so they have historical data.

So yeah, NPD isn't exactly just making guesses as to Wal Mart, sorry Wii fans.

I'd love it though if Wally World became NPD client again, sice we'd then get almost 100% accurate sales.

Also, I'd guess Wal Mart is the biggest customer for every video game company not just Nintendo..I could be wrong though. Wal Mart is not just America but the WORLD's largest single retailer..think about that.

Pretty sure Wal Mart is the biggest electronics retailer as well, ahead of Best Buy.

The major USA retailers, if you were to group by similarity are in the following categories:

Massive General Stores (A):

Walmart

Target

Local chains

Electronics (B):

Best Buy

Fry's and a bunch of little others

Dedicated Game Stores (C):

Game Stop/ EB Games

Game Crazy

Toy Stores (D):

Toys R US/Kids R US

Video Stores (E):

Blockbuster

Online (F):

Amazon

Circuit City and KB Toys don't really sell games anymore. There are also alot of independent stores, particularly in cities in the west.

I would guess groups A & D are strongest for Nintendo. B is probably best for Sony followed by A, C is probably best for Microsoft followed by B.

I'd add..maybe Kmart and Sears and Costco to massive general retailers.. the first two may be struggling but Costco is a big one.

Yeah, i think you understimate how hard tracking like that can be... it's really hard statistically.

And..whats your background in statistics?

Estimates are estimates ,which are educated guesses but still guesses. Also NPD still doesn't have Toy R US as client which again is big seller for wii. So they have to estimate that too.

Walmart biggest customer for all systems I doubt that only becaus eof demogrphics but it is definitely a top player all around.

I love fighting games !!! Come on challenge me !
