Forums - Nintendo - The Warren Spector Mickey Game Prediction Thread

@Kasz216
It appears the magazine itself will be released in a week or so. So for now it's just the cover.

Fair enough.

I mean I know this is a big brand and Warren Spector is beloved... but i still worry about it's sales.

Sure Micky is huge... but are parents going to buy their kids a micky game where Goofy is a freakin zombie with bones poking out and such?

Isn't this going to rely almost completly on older nostalgic Disney fans?

Platformers aren't what they used to be...

Though i've got to admit... Mario Galaxy sold a heck of a lot more copies then I remembered it selling.  I seemed to of recalled people bitching about its sales.

Still I'm... dubious about it's chances due to it being so... werid.

I predict that it's going to be beatiful and I'm going to watch it closely. That's about as much as I can predict right now.

How do we know it is a platformer? I didn't think we knew anything about the gameplay.

Anyways, as for sale, until further information surfaces we can only make random guesses. Since this seems to be a high production game, it will probably get good advertising and good sales. Unless this turns out to be some niche game or something crazy happens I'm guessing this game gets 2m sales.

After checking death threads some time back I think it were the Japan sales they were bitching about (majority though).

I got it from this, though it might just be speculation from the Game Informer cover.

http://www.bit-tech.net/news/gaming/2009/10/06/warren-spector-details-epic-mickey/1

Dubbed 'Epic Mickey' internally, the project has been the subject of much speculation since concept art and rumours that it was a Castle of Illusion remake first started to surface earlier this year.

Now, according to a feature in the upcoming US issue of GameInformer, Spector has finally confirmed that 'Epic Mickey' is indeed a Wii-exclusive platformer starring Mickey Mouse - one which is firmly grounded in Spector's love of the character and which tries to take Disney in a slightly new direction.

The game apparently casts players as Mickey Mouse, who has been dethroned as the King of Disneyland by an army of lesser-known characters who set about remaking the kingdom to their likeness. Mickey then sets out to reclaim his place, using what seems to be a magic paintbrush that lets you erase and redraw portions of the level.

The game also appears to be keeping with the unusual art direction seen in the earlier concept art, with plenty of steampunk creations and darker imagery than you might expect.

^Sounds like action-adventure game.

Either way platformer or action/adventure, the concept art looks cool. If they can create good gameplay, then I'll probably pick this up.

Also, as for concern about parents not wanting to pick it up due to skeleton goofy's and such, that was concept art, so it may have been toned down a bit, but either way it isn't gory so I don't think most parents would have a problem with it.

Warren was big in the 80s and early 90s. He hasn't been amazing since that time, or for over 10 years. I've seen and heard very nothing of the game. A game will more than likely come out at some point. Mickey will be in it. Outside of that, we have very little info. As for how much it sells, that depends on how good it is and how much advertising it gets. It may be a average game like the recent Indiana Jones game or a good game like the recent Batman game. I have no idea.

I don't like the idea of Warren Spector wasting his talent and resources on a game about Mikey Mouse. I think i remmber reading the reason was cus he as a kid loved Mickey so his nostalgic dream is to do a mickey mouse game?
