Forums - Sony - To all ps3 owners a question............................

I own a Blu Ray player and 3 HD DVD players. I also own an upconverting DVD player - upscales movies to 720P. My Vizio TV supports 1080P and audio over my HDMI cables.

That said, I have close to 40 HD DVD titles (including the Matrix trilogy, Bourne triology and Planet Earth) and about 20 Blus. I love both formats, even though one is dead. I actually watch more HD DVDs at the moment, but have Netflix and rent pretty much only Blus from them unless I have to get a movie on DVD.

The quality is superb, but I regret a lot of movies from back in the day aren't properly updated and made for 1080P. It looks like a quick conversion (Star Trek II, IV looked like crap) but in the future, if the studios re-released movies and did it with care, I'd likely bite. However, since I'm likely going to rebuy movies in the future, I won't pay more than $15 max for movie, and really only get more Blus when they are like $10 a pop.

Right now, the upconverting of my 360 HD DVD and the Toshiba DVD player are good enough until Blu prices come crashing down. Then, I'd update most of my DVD collection (well over 300 DVDs).

I only use Blu Ray for Action and Sci-fi flix. I buy everything else standard (Cheaper so I can buy them in larger quantities). Blu Ray raises the quality of the standard DVD's anyway so it doesn't matter that way to me.

I like BluRay and buy it when I can. This week I got The Office Season 5 and the wife got me this a few weeks ago for our anniversary:

I of course love the series, but that is by far the worst packaging I have ever seen and the first disc of each season you have to listen to the executive producer rant on before every episode.

The packaging is so bad I would have just considered not getting it in the first place if I knew it was that bad.  The thing is a giant box that doesn't fit anywhere but that isn't what makes it so horrible (it's actually cool how the box opens), the part that makes it so horrible is actually taking the discs out.  Each season comes in a seperate smaller box with the discs inside the box in their own sleeves.  These sleeves are attached to the actual box and are so deep and close together that you can't actually grip the disc and are too tight to easily slide out (I can take pictures later showing if people need it).  That means you have to press down on the disc and drag it out over every disc.

It's horribly inconvenient (so much so I almost don't want to watch it anymore) and I know I'm eventually going to scratch a disc while taking one out.  It really is just terrible.

I only buy BR movies now. The Warner Red2Blu program finally got me just about off of HD-DVD. I wouldn't be a regular DVD unless a BR version was not available.

To all ps3 owners aside from using the ps3 for gaming, are any of you avid blu ray fans/supporters?

I use my ps3 for gaming but when im not gaming im using it to watch a blu ray movie, its a joy watching a movie in Blu ray granted you have the right set-up to enjoy HD movies. Just last night I was watching Fast and the furious on blu ray it just blew me away. I've only just started my Blu ray collection. Once you've experienced Blu ray is hard to go back to dvd's!

Blu ray is indeed becoming a great selling point for the ps3, with the format set to go mainstream next year.

What are your thoughts on Blu ray? What's your fav Blu ray movie? Any movie you're anticipating for Blu ray?

My Blu ray Shopping list for this year!

Discuss anything Blu in this thread whether positive or negative

The perfect combination

Thanks.

Holy crap, we have like, you know, the exact same taste! *flicks wrist*

Action and horror movies are the only genres that are worth watching on Blu Ray.
