| Xoj said: well steam still a wide "success". and its preferred of windows games. i wish the developers would give up the .net like developing and go back to making games like they should. c and opengl. but all the nice tools probably make that a problem. also this would help developers go on mac+linux game and remove lack windows feature that lock games into microsoft OS pcs. |
I agree with this entirely. A move over to Open GL and Open CL would help everyone that isn't Microsoft immensely. So much of gaming occurs outside MS's little garden of Windows and the 360, and all of it is Open GL based. The PS3, the Wii, the PSP, the DS, the iphon, the mac, linux, the ipod touch ect ect ect all open GL and soon Open CL for additional GPU acceleration outside of 3D graphics. That MS keeps pushing Direct X based solutions hurts innovation across platforms and gaming in general.
I think most people would be quite happy with a system in which games are written in a standard language that can be used by the most OSes possible so that your OS choice would be determined by how well it does non gaming tasks. Every time I have to suffer through using Vista just to play this or that GFW game it makes me rather unhappy since playing this or that restricted game is the only thing Vista is any good for.
This is a case of MS having a monopoly based not on quality, but on proprietary standards and purposely limiting interoperability. That the number one argument most windows fanboys have is "its better because it has more games" goes to the heart of my point, the only reason Windows has the share it does is because MS works to make it as impossible as possible to switch through BS software limitations.
