Forums - Nintendo - IGN Wii Fit PLUS Review -- 8.2/10!! (The PHENOMENON continues)!

Closing Comments
Whether you already own Wii Fit or find yourself completely new to Nintendo's best-selling phenomenon, Plus is great way to burn some calories while having fun. Every last feature of Wii Fit is copied over to Plus, and Nintendo has also added in six new exercises and 15 new balance board games on top of a calorie tracker, customized workout programs, a local multiplayer mode and, of course, the ability to weigh your pets. There's still some issues -- BMI is inaccurate as a measurement system, the lack of online leaderboards or challenges is a major oversight at this point, some of the added exercises and games fail to compare to the others, and the virtual trainers' dialogs repeat too often. Still, Plus is much cheaper than a gym membership and if you use it right, with proper diet, you can lose weight or tone muscle and have a good time while you do.

IGN Ratings for Wii Fit Plus (Wii)
Rating Description
out of 10 click here for ratings guide
7.5 Presentation
A healthy list of exercises and balance board games -- everything from the original plus 15 new minis and six new exercises. Calorie counter. Programs. BMI is flawed. Graphics are still too basic.
5.0 Graphics
Intentionally simple and unimposing. There's polish, but the presentation is also a little boring.
6.0 Sound
Crisp audio from the on-screen trainers, but their guiding dialog is repeated way too often.
8.5 Gameplay
Working out made fun with more games, more exercises and routine programs. BMI system is imprecise, though. Some of the games are uninspired.
9.0 Lasting Appeal
Huge selection of games and exercises, as well as a local multiplayer mode. No online leaderboards or challenges, though, which is unfortunate.
8.2
Impressive

Well done.

Pixel Art can be fun.

It got a higher score than deadly creatures kind of hard to believe

BMI is still flawed?

Around the Network

It's not the BMI in this game that is flawed, BMI is by definition flawed.

Currently Playing: Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked, Professor Layton and the Curious Village

Anticipating: Xenoblade, The Last Story, Mario Kart 7, Rayman Origins, Zelda SS, Crush3D, Tales of the Abyss 3DS, MGS:Snake Eater 3DS, RE:Revelations, Time Travellers, Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney, Luigi's Mansion 2, MH TriG, DQ Monsters, Heroes of Ruin

BMI is always flawed. It doesn't take big bones into account, or giant muscles. Any bodybuilder would technically be considered obese if you only go by BMI.

But if you know your weight and your height and your age you can keep track of them and you'll know which direction to go in to be healthier, so it gets the job done.

what I mean is that they could have just gotten rid of it.... wasn't there a lot of gripe about this before? someone killed themselves or something?

BMI could be a little more accurate in the game if you could define muscular build. Granted some would define their build wrong, but that only affects them.

Plus, for most people, i.e. not "buff" people, it is a decent indicator if you're fat or not.

BMI is good for non muscly people

if you have muscles apparently there;s no point in using it
