Forums - Sony - World's first mod chip for PS3?

I've had a
NES
Megadrive
PSone
PS2
Gamecube
Xbox
Wii
X360...

And I've never owned a single pirated game. I don't respect those that do it, and I think it's the same as stealing.

I see so many ads for mods and pirate games and I wonder why no-one does anything about that. I mean their advertising stolen goods aren't they?

Anyway, I hope the majority on VGChartz feel the same.

It's such a hassle as it is to mod the 360. Open up the console, which voids the warranty, get the system flashed and hoping you don't screw it up (easier if you hire someone reliable to do it but even then I wouldn't trust someone doing that to a valuable console like that). Then you either gotta scan and possibly modify the pirate copies so that you minimize your chance of getting caught on xbl or get off xbl completely (resulting in an inferior game experience. no patches, no DLC, no FREE DLC and no online play.) Oh and if you have RRoD or some other error for warranty repairs? You better hope MS doesn't notice that the sticker was tampered with! Too much risk for the reward IMO.

Now modding a PS3 and pirating PS3 games? It would be so not worth it. It would be even worse than 360 modding on all fronts. Totally not worth it. PS3 modchips won't take off. Even 360 flashing hasn't taken off all that much (except for people who are diehard cheap skates willing to take the high risk for the high reward). That's why 360's attach rate pwns the PS2's. PS3 modchips will be even less relevant because you gotta solder and once the firmware update is out, you can't go on psn ever again if you don't want to brick the PS3 and you might not be able to play future games.

LMAO, your living in the old ages...

Flashing a 360 takes me no more than 15 minutes (this includes opening it up), you don't get banned from xbox live, noone has been banned since the gears 2 issue last year when a lot of people played the game weeks before the official release date resulting in those people getting banned,

I have two flashed 360's here and so do all my friends and family (about 15 in total), none have ever been banned from xbox live since 2006, as long as you check your games (backups of games you own of course!) before playing and never play games (that you own!) before they are out in shops you are 100% safe, I have been flashing 360's for almost two years now, no issues at all,

And also, regarding RROD on a flashed 360, I have had 7 sent in for repair (customers consoles I have sent in), all of which were flashed, 3 had no warranty stickers on and 4 did, they all was repaired totally free of charge just like any other 360, this has been the case since day one as MS don't even check.

And your also wrong saying 360 flashing hasn't taken off lol, it is a HUGE scene and I mean huge...

P.S, console chipping/flashing is totally LEGAL in the UK (where I'm from) and the E.U, there are no laws against it, games piracy is illegal and I do not condone this and will never discuss that here.

Wow, it seems like people here don't realize blu-ray burners are only $200 dollars now. We'll be seeing pirated PS3 games before you know it, even if this is fake. Nothing is 100% secure.

You do not have the right to never be offended.

I think some... No!!! Many gamers in my country will be very happy to hear about this. (^_^)

Great news for Sony. Piracy has always been key to winning the console wars. Sony knows that better than most.

It's a myth that no has been banned for playing backups since GoW2. It still happens. I've seen users on the internet complain about being banned for played pirated copies all the time. It's just not happening in big waves. Though that may soon change when MS announced on twitter the permaban hammer was coming after seeing a whole bunch of IDIOTS playing ODST before the release date. Obviously the scene still exists but 360 piracy is no where close to what it's like on the Wii, PS2, DS and PSP, which are all pirated to hell.

As for the warranty sticker thing, I'm not sure how things are in the UK but in North America your warranty sticker has to be there in order to get it serviced. And putting the sticker back won't guarantee repair service if they notice you tampered with it. Like sure you'll run into lazy MS employees who don't give a damn to check but I'd find it hard to believe that none of them would check the sticker.

@averyblund Piracy does not win console wars. Pirates may buy the hardware but third-party developers won't be interested in developing for a console that can't shift software (and pirates naturally don't buy the software). And if you don't have support from third-party developers, you're going to lose no matter what. PS1 and PS2 were heavily pirated but their overall software sales were much larger than the competition in their respective generations so it was worth it to third-party developers to develop exclusively for the Playstation. Sony won the war because there were enough people willing to buy the games. Not because their systems were easy to pirate.

As I said before, your TOTALLY behind the times if you really think what you wrote is true lmao.

Yes there were a few people getting banned for playing ODST early but once again this is because people were playing a game before it's release date, no one gets banned otherwise as long as all games are checked using abgx360 before playing,

Last year when MS did a mass ban wave they got the wrong people and ended up banning people who didn't even have a flashed 360, this caused a lot of media coverage and MS had to un-ban all those people, they are not very good at targetting the correct people lol.

I have been flashing 360's since 2006, I flash a minimum of three a week (upto about 20 a week when new filmwares come out) and not one person has been banned in all this time, i'm also a member on lots of xbox flashing forums and again hardly anyone has been banned unless you count people getting banned for playing games early which anyone with common sense would not do as it is asking for trouble.

And regarding the warranty, your wrong again as many many people in the U.S, E.U and U.K have sent their consoles in without the stickers and have had them fixed as normal totally free, even consoles with no warranty still got repaired as they don't check, this isn't just something that happens in the UK, it happens everywhere, google it if you want proof.

And as I said before, the 360 flashing scene is huge, it is MUCH larger than the wii's chipping scene, have a look on google, go on a few of these legal hacking sites and see for yourself, wii's chipping scene is the one that isn't that large, not many people chip them, it's estimated that 20-25% of all 360's are flashed, that is a very high number.

And I will say this again, console chipping/flashing is TOTALLY legal in the UK, playing pirated games is illegal and I do NOT condone it.

^Yeah, here in Sweden the number of modded X360's is even higher. Way more than 20-25% of all X360s are modded here sadly.

I'd be concerned about 'chipping' my PS3 because of Firmware updates. It's already happening on the Wii with update 4.0 (if I'm not mistaken). XBox might be different - don't know for sure. Here in Malta everyone knows how you could 'chip' that.
