My wife brought home an HD TV a few days ago. I played my Wii on it to see how it would look. I thought it looked nicer. Brighter if anything. But it left me with a question. If I get the Composite cords for the Wii, will it do much? Does it make it look any better, like get rid of some of those edges, or is the cord a waste of cash?

You mean Component right? As Composite is standard in the package. Yes, as you can put progressive scan on in the option menu once you have the Component cable connected. I'd advice to buy the original Nintendo version not some cheap 3rd party cable. It sure improves especially with games which support 480p.

I just got the component cables for my Wii on my nice 42" LCD, and no, there is not much of a difference at all. Honestly, waste of money.

More proof that HDTV owners are not very observant of image quality ...

Going from RCA to S-Video gives a noticeable improvement in image quality, going from S-Video to component (without moving to 480p) gives a similar improvement in image quality, and switching to 480 is about as large of an improvement as the previous two changes combined.

So just because I don't see a noticeable difference makes me not very observant? Honestly, I'm just not all that impressed with the improvement.

I didn't mean it as a personal comment ...

In my opinion the improvement from 480i to 480p is almost as noticeable as the improvement from 480p to 720p; the fact that many/most people share your opinion it just strengthens the argument that people will not buy a HD console simply because they own an HDTV.

It made a HUGE difference for me on my Trinitron Wega XBR 36" HTDV

Prepare for termination! It is the only logical thing to do, for I am only loyal to Megatron.

check with your new tv's manual, and verify what signals(types of cable) it upscales... i do not believe anything other than HDMI input with HDCP support can upscale, due to copyright protection...
