Most people i've heard of don't get stuff like that repaired. They might take it to someone they know or something like that, but if they can't do anything about it they'll just grab a new one. A lot of people can't be arsed going through all of the nessesary steps to have it officially fixed. Not only that, people with modded consoles might be nervous about getting theirs fixed. especially pirates.
