The english voice acting is great. Story-wise I can't really judge much going by this. Except but say that it looks like Square is sticking with the typical melodramatic jrpg fare. I don't expect high-brow stuff from Final Fantasy. Popcorn entertainment like freaking True Blood is good enough for me but I haven't had that "oh my gosh what happens next" feeling from playing a jrpg in many years. More like a "holy crap when is this game going to end?" feeling (which is not good). The jrpg is growing stale. They need better scenario writers with more original ideas. If FFXIII has gameplay that can hold your interest from beginning to end (also rare for me. after a certain point, I feel like I just want these long-ass jrpgs get to the end) or had a story that made you want to keep playing to see what happens next, then I'll buy it. But jrpg developers mostly strike out both gameplay and story-wise. Visual novels get the story right while shooters, sports games, wrpgs, action-adventures, fighters, etc. get the gameplay right. Jrpgs are getting neither right. Jrpgs also seem like they still target their games towards teens. With teen drama (Square Enix) and/or fairytale (ie. Tales) stories and games that require intensive time investment, it's clear that they have a "no adults allowed except diehard jrpg fanboys" policy. Jrpg developers, if you must stick with the generic stories, at the very least stop making your games feel like a chore. "Uh don't tell me I gotta finish this thing. 60+ hours of boring combat (aside from fun stuff like boss fights) and uninspired narrative here I come." Makes games, not chore simulators and you'll win me back.
