Forums - Sales - Did the release of Halo 3:ODST move consoles?

With Worldwide up one can't help but notice xbox 360 sold more consoles this week than PS3 in North America. With one of the biggest franchise game releases especially for the US, do you think ODST prompted people to buy an xbox 360? Or do you think otherwise.

While the margin of victory in the US is small, I think it it telling because xbox 360 still outsells PS3 at the same price. PS3 needs to gain the upperhand in the US if they have hopes of becoming the more popular console.

Thoughts, speculations?

EDIT: Sorry for the important North America aspect.

Around the Network

NO! Most people who wants to play any Halo game already own a 360 since Halo 3 launch.

I think both the $50 Elite rebate and ODST releasing had effects in this week X360's sales (at least in Americas). This next week things could get different though. The more impressive of it all is that X360 nearly managed to beat Wii WW.

Huh? 161k > 234k, confirmed?

ODST by itself did not move any hardware.

ODST had very minimal impact - as expected.

360 now needs price drops to see significant HW boosts, it's main franchises have their install base and will not drive much further HW beyond current weekly levels. Obviously a new franchise could also help, but I don't see any potential new Halo / Gears titles on the horizon that would drive a decent HW boost.

The other unknown is Natal, of course. It may, if successful, see a further HW boost for the 360.

So in short, the 360 will not, IMHO, see any significant weekly average increases without a price drop, Natal being very successful at attracting new customers or a major new IP drawing in a large new fanbase.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

I cant really picture anybody buying a 360 for Halo ODST when they probably wouldve already bought it instead for Halo 3. ... but if you see somebody at the store purchasing a 360 with a copy of ODST then yes it shifted consoles lol

I was at the Halo 3 midnight launch a few years ago... I estimated about 10% of people were walking out of the store with consoles as well.

I saw much the same lineup for ODST. And I did not see one console leave the store...

Not very scientific.

It did raise a little bit, but nothing to celebrate about, It would do better if Microsoft didn't fuck up.
