Forums - Nintendo - Wii Fft+ has KUNG FU

@Theprof: Actually, Kung-Fu is the term that got Wushu "sold" to west. Wushu and Kung-Fu are the same thing, with the exception that wushu can also mean a martial art called Wushu.

As the game is japanese, i'm surprised that the sport isn't rhythm budo.

@Wessle: Yes and no. The real problem with Natal is the customer who most likely can't do any martial arts.

Surely, it would be better in tracking your movements, but the simplicity needed would be away.

And, balance board tracks your center of gravity, so it's pretty good in tracking your movements. When you kick, the different kicks move your balance differently.
For example, the hula hoops is pretty good in tracking how you bend your knees while playing it.

"Is that really a problem for a non-competitive game, particularly one whose primary focus is exercise?"

No, but it is a problem for accurately measuring kicks, which would be important in a kung fu game. Now that I think about it, For an actual kick training game you would need Natal and the balance board, so it can measure your form with the camera and your balance and power with the balance board.

@Ramuji: Wii Fit is competetive. Plus even more so because of the multiplayer.
If you're the only one playing it, surely there's no competition, but two or more players can have pretty good fight for the high score.

Gotcha. I assumed you were still talking about Wii Fit.

On the topic of competing, my cousin who does the yoga forms horribly has better scores than me on some of them... I expect it might be the same with a game that tried to measure your kiciks. You can do it with poor form and still have great balance, thus making it think you did good.

@Wessle: That's the idea and that's why too sophisticated tracking is a bad thing, since people don't have the skill required to perform correctly. Which is also why i laughed hard when i saw the guy making the roundhouse kick in the Natal presentation video at E3.

By the way, i take that as you having even worse yoga pose.

I video tape myself during Wii fit(and whatever else I do) to make sure I have good form.

Suck on that.

sounds more like TAE-BO

a lot of people don't realize that when they think of kung fu, they're actually thinking of wushu.
Kung fu can really be anything. What Jackie Chan does is more closely defined as wushu.

They probably call it Kung Fu for the same reason they called kayaking canoeing, a lot of people don't know what Tae-Bo is. Plus Kung Fu sounds more fun.

"Now, a fun game should always be easy to understand - you should be able to take one look at it and know what you have to do straight away. It should be so well constructed that you can tell at a glance what your goal is and, even if you don’t succeed, you’ll blame yourself rather than the game. Moreover, the people standing around watching the game have also got to be able to enjoy it." - Shiggy

@Burgerstein: Kung-Fu means chinese martial arts.

Jackie Chan's style isn't Wushu, that picture is proof!

If Wii Fit + manages to make me do that, i'll buy it in a sec :p
