Still need more comments. I picked Mortal Kombat II, both to not being boring and picking the start of a franchise every time, but also because it always seems to me to be the more talked about entry in the franchise. So do you consider Mortal Kombat II to be the best game in the franchise, or at least during the 16bit era or do you think another game is better?

I definitely consider MKII the best game in the series.  It improves everything from MKI, doesn't have the annoying run button and crappy characters of MKIII, and lacks the poor gameplay of 3D fighitng games in general.  I never was a big fan of the original, much preferring Street Fighter II, but I came to like MKII quite a bit after giving it a try despite being underwhelmed with the original.  Some of the moves are a little difficult to pull off in a pinch, but overall it's a fun and balanced game.  I don't care about the gore, although it never bothered me...but it's always fun to knock someone into spikes or acid or something.
