Jeez there's some super-emo posts on here.

I think Nintendo fans have a right to feel slightly disappointed, but some of these over the top HOW-COULD-YOU-NINTENDO posts are just rediculous.

They did say their not competing didn't they? They did say their not willing to lose money on a console didn't they? They did give us Mario,Link,Samus didn't they?

I CAN'T remember the last time I heard anyone say it, so here goes:
xxxxx****WELL DONE NINTENDO****xxxxxx

****WELL DONE NINTENDO****

Problem is, some Sony/MIcrosoft fanboys are quite annoying, but some Nintendo fanboys are even worse... many kids these days are just too spoiled, and think the whole world turns around their very important person... "i want this, i want that, i deserve this, i deserve that"...

Or even worse: "Nintendo should do this, or do that to be successful"... as if a successful and multi-billion dollar company like Nintendo could use the "deep thoughts" of kids who couldn't manage a hot-dog stand for two weeks without going bankrupt...

It's actually more like. "I want to buy this, I want to buy that. Why wont they make something I will buy." For me at least, Nintendo has for the last 3 generations only come out with a handful of games that I am willing to buy. Whereas the competition comes out with dozens of games I am willing to buy. That has not changed with this generation. Pre-N64 I bought tons of SNES games.

maybe some core gamers lost the script eh?

AFAIK a true hardcore gamer has or wants to have all systems

im as hardcore cutesy hater as they come, and i play my wii a lot

Last year's game of the year turned out to be Silent Hill : Shattered Memories (online GOTY was COD 6).  This year's GOTY leader to me is Heavy Rain.

When did discussing video games become as annoying as discussing politics?

Even though this generation is nearly over.. I think Wii will catch up in the end with some great core titles like NSMBWii, Crystal Bearers, Tales of Graces, Metroid: Other M, New Zelda, Red Steel 2 etc. etc. etc.

Yawn. I think I've become too tired to even read these arguments anymore.

What is the core? In many fruits, it is the part in the middle you do not eat (but rather throw away). In computers, it is the central processor around everything else is built.

Traditionally, the video games market has treated what it has considered the "core" more like the latter of these definitions than the former.

However, Nintendo has decided not to do that. It has not thrown away the core per se (as in the first example above), but rather given it equal billing with the rest of the system (or fruit). Thus, many "core" gamers, no longer receiving their perceived predestined preferential treatment, feel like Nintendo is treating them like apple cores (not Apple Corps, by the way -- that would be in The Beatles: Rock Band).

Nintendo has decided to do things its own way and differently. It has been profitable for it and led to record sales. I has even reached out to third-parties much more than ever before. But for some, this has not been enough.

The third-party support has been slow because of the sunk cost and near equilibrium in the market between the Wii and other two consoles combined. (Unlike the DS, there is an alternative to developing for the Wii that the market was ready to support upon release and thus there was a substantial investment made in that area that must be recouped).

In closing, maybe Nintendo's thinking is more like an apple. After all, if it succeeds, the old "core" will be "thrown away" for the new expanded gaming universe. That sounds great -- unless you are in the core.

Hasn't it always been like politics? I remember gettin scorned for owning a n64 on high school by someone who owned a PS.

Maybe, but I don't remember this kind of crap going on when I was younger. I've never owned more than one console a generation, and I never felt the need to knock my buddy's Genesis, N64, or GameCube... maybe its only because I was too busy having fun with the games they had that I didn't. All I know is this subject is getting old, and I still haven't had a good explanation as to what a "core" game is.

LOL

Sony would love to have the "core" sales Nintendo has.

Mario Kart approaching 20 million, Brawl and Galaxy at 8 million+, Zelda over 5 million.

How many 5million+ sellers does Sony have? One.

Yeh sure, Nintendo lost the core market even though it's core games have sold more this gen than any other gen meanwhile Sony is struggling like they never have before.
