Forums - Gaming - No Modern Warfare 2 demo or beta before launch

well this is a bit arrogant

I wasn't buying it anyway, but their chance to amaze me through the demo has gone & making me buy the game is gone.

Makes a lot of sense. It was to be expected.

Why would they waste time (and money) when so many buyers will buy it without questions?

Why does it make a lot of sense and why was it to be expected?

The main reason to have a beta would be to make sure they have a high quality game.  Without beta testing their could be a lot of bugs that turn people away from playing the game or purchasing it (like those ass's that crawl under the map and shoot you that you cannot see).  Without a good beta there will more than likely be a very large amount of these things happening early on.  And a good beta would have already had a majority of these things taken care of.

Their is a reason that so many people will purchase it without question and that is because the other IW COD games were amazingly high quality.  And this is due in some part to beta testing.

Isn't that my point? People will buy those games because of the strong brandname and the perseved quality. So why do a external beta or demo?

They do have a large group of internal betatesters. For a fps-minnded company that's a given. They can always patch later on - if even needed.

It's activision they just like Nintendo belive it's demos are the tools of Satan and consumer shouldn't even think he can get any entertainment for free.

wow, you must really like demos . . .

in case your wondering mariokart wii is good, you may not have tried it yet with the lack of a demo.

joking but yeh, no one is the spawn of the devil

(except spawn, and even then not really)

Last year's game of the year turned out to be Silent Hill : Shattered Memories (online GOTY was COD 6).  This year's GOTY leader to me is Heavy Rain.

I thought it was probably Activision pulling the no beta strings as well.  I just hope this doesn't effect the quality of the game overall.  The game certainly looks amazing so I would hate for a few minor bugs (that could have been fixed with a beta) to muck it up.

COD always has some map breaking bugs, and no beta ever has had enough time to weed them all out. I mean COD4 still has two of them and it's been almost 2 years since release.

It is true about map breaking bugs will always be there.  But I can point to like atleast 3 or 4 major ones that was in the beta for WAW that were fixed pre release.  So beta's do actually help a lot.

Don't get me wrong, I still think this game is going to be amazing and more than likely Game of the Year for me.  I just think that a beta would have made it much smoother for everyone involved.  And I could have had a good shot at getting to know a few of the maps before the game is released!

I think they don't have enough confidence that this game's going to sell. Spending money on a demo is too risky.
