Turn 10 responds to Forza III graphics complaints

The demo of Forza Motorsport 3 was released on September 24th for the Xbox Live Marketplace. Although the Xbox 360 exclusive racing game may be a huge hit with many gamers already, there were some complaints regarding the game’s graphics. Che Chou, the community manager of Turn 10, was kind enough to address some of the concerns across multiple game forums.

Here is his response to a claim that the in-game graphics of Forza Motorsport 3 are different than the ones found in photomode:

One clarification about photomode and screenshots we've released so far. Aside from the added effects such as AA, DOF, and motion blur, all assets you see in photomode are the same although I do stand corrected on one factor which is the player car. They do have higher detail in photomode while all other cars, the environments, etc. are exactly what you see in game. And as you know in replays everything is the same. Anyway, did not mean to mislead or 'play dumb' with earlier statements as I misunderstood how LODs were being used in the various modes. That said, many of the screenshots we've released thus far have used the in-game graphics car models since we often shoot a scene including cars that aren't the player car. <shrug> It all looks good and representative of the game, imo.

Here is his comment on rather or not the graphics would be the same in the final build of Forza Motorsport 3 and if the game will have better anti-aliasing:

The demo is visually representative of the full-game so racing in-game won't look much different.

I don't see that many jaggies on my multiple TVs at home and at work, but everyone's setups can be varied.

Finally, here is his overall response to all of the complaints over the graphics:

I guess that's the thing. Overall, when I'm racing around the track, my eyes are not bleeding. I am a fairly big graphics ***. I love taking photos in photomode. Games with bad graphics distract me from my experience. That said, when I play FM3, I do not think about how awful the graphics are or low in-game car models, etc. simply because the overall effect is that the game looks good. Can it look better? Yes, totally and I agree it is not perfect. But does it justify the vitriol of some of the threads I've scanned this morning? I'm not sure that it does. Everyone has their own opinion on the matter and that's fine and there's not much I can say except I hope you'll give the final game a chance and have fun with it.

Even with the complaints about the graphics, Forza Motorsport 3 is shaping up to be the best racing game of the year, especially now that Gran Turismo 5 has been delayed until 2010. The Xbox 360 exclusive game will be released on October 23rd in North America.

honest answer imo. but whats troubling is that turn 10 said they dont post bullshots, and now they say they are corrected on the cars they have higher detail from the shots they gave from photomode.

Honestly I was a bit concerned due to some screenshots, but after seeing direct-feed videos of FM3 gameplay, I think it looks as good as Turn 10's screenshots. I guess with a big screen the worse AA may make a difference, but that's probably not a big deal for those who have 32'' screens like me.

Demo looks as good as the screenshots to me.

Best racing game of 2009? Likely.

Best racing game of all time this generation? We'll see how gran turismo 5 will turn out.

well it certainly looks good, il try it later this week. but overall i think it looks as good as the screenies that were given. everyone puts out ultra high res images for upcoming games anyways.

Yeah there's a pretty decent sized difference between the pics and what it actually is.  But then again I am playing on a SD TV now.  But still on my SD TV F2 and F3 don't really have a big difference between them for graphics.

Well it was obviously photo mode, otherwise how are you going to get motion blur unless you take an off-screen picture...

After playing the Demo I have to say that some people must be looking at this game under the most detailed of microscopes. I didn't notice the glitch out or many other issues.
