Forums - Sales - PS3 price cut: Today... in japan... what will happen o_o

Europe benefitted greatly from the (more generous 100Euros) price cut. In Japan I doubt a ~50$ price cut will make any significant impact (35~45k IMO). As for Super Mario Galaxy, even Everybody's Golf and Dragon Quest Swords moved systems, their beloved plumber won't? And if that happens, then I agree with FishyJoe, why should MGS4? Or even FFXIII?

see what halo did was sell to its audience. I think SMG will cater to a larger audience than Halo 3. Thus moving more hardware. Although, I dont think Smg will sell more than halo, but it is a game that cause people to get Wiis.

As MGS4 will cause people to take the dive for a PS3.

Halo boosted what.. 500K more sales the week of release.. I gave Mario 250K more.

I think the PS3 and the Wii will be close together, the drop wasn't that big, and the 40 GB (With the real lower price point) is coming begin of November not now. I personal think the 40 GB will have a deeper impact in JA than this little price drop.

==> I dont expect too much too.
maybe 30k and the Wii 25k
It will beat the wii but be very close.

Time to Work !

Regarding the 40 GB model in Japan... Remember that the PS2 is huge there, and most Japanese don't have a lot of space in their houses. Wouldn't it be natural for them to prefer a model with BC, which means they can sell their used PS2 (or put it away) in order to save some precious space, and reduce the number of cables around their TVs?

I think the 40 GB model will be more successful in Western markets than in Japan. Maybe y-koron or some other Japanese can give us his (much more informed than mine) opinion.

As long as the 20 / 60GB isn't announced to be discontinued in Japan I don't think the price drop will have much effect. As soon as they say in Japan BC will disappear and the 40GB is the only SKU which you can buy.... then I better buy one asap before they're entirely sold out within less than a few weeks.

Its sad for me... in australia there is no BC units available any more... unless I wanna go and pay $999 AUD to get one of the few 60GB's left (if I can find one).

I said i'd never pay that for a console so until it got down to $700 I wouldn't buy one.

Now it's down to $700 I would consider buying it if it still had back compatibility... I have a PS2 but I am sick an tired of controller wires, the PS2 is the only console left in my house that has cords, and I was looking forward to being able to one day eventually play my PS2 games on the PS3 with the wireless sixaxis... and you know what? I feel gimped and jibbed and disappointed. I will probably never own a PS3 now.

This is the first and last time i've spoken about this because it's not that big a deal, I'm just one person, because of this I went and bought and Elite (shock horror I know...) I hope MGS4 is multiplatform because honestly I need to play that but I'm not buying no shitty NO BC PS3, forget that.

OriGin, they'll probably launch a version with (no EE, GS only) BC once the 60 GB model sells out in PAL territories.

I would be very surprised if the best available model suddenly got worse than it was before (less hard drive space, no BC, etc...).

I agree that they will probably release a version with BC in PAL territories once the 60GB is all gone. Maybe the rumored 160GB model? That said, nothing Sony does surprises me. I could see them being bone head enough not to release BC model given their recent track record.

Price cut is only 30 Euro, about 43USD, my god... not even worth it, considering the fact I've just seen the news at Famitsu that the PS3 will have an extra PS3, but no news about discontinuing the 20/60GB. And the wait continues....

Funny though, the shop which will have the 40GB, the 40GB cost overthere the same as the 20GB.

I consider the price cut to be a complete joke.
