Forums - Sales - NPD: Blu-Ray to go MAINSTREAM in 2010! (Will this HELP PS3?)!

Fantastic news! Blu-ray (BD) is here to stay and is the best choice for HD. I just spent $1200 U.S on around 100 BD's, averaging around $12 each. Very cheap!

Do I think it will help the PS3... as resonable has said, it will help with the choice for people confused with a HD console. It will also really help the PS4 when it takes off.

SONY's win-win at the moment. I wonder where the usual haters and doubters are of BD, tho...

Yeah I agree that the Dreamers segment has been hit and this is a definite upgrade in the future for BD.

Still in the UK the hearts and minds of people are won on the high street and in many stores BD takes a very firm back seat to DVD.

Of the stores that do stock BD the price is still far too high. HMV yesterday had BD's on sale for 15 GBP. The same film on DVD was on the same display for 7 GBP.

People are still hurting in this recession and if BD wants to move out from under the shadow of DVD then shops should be discouraged from letting customers see the price discrepancy.

Wii proves that all this hangup on convergence and high storage discs etc, is just pointless, people are less concerned with features, all they care about is will it do what they want (not what they say they want, but what they actually want) at a good value.

Are you so sure of it ?

If you have no idea about games and are buying game system for your kid won't you be interested in getting one that can also be used by you to play BD movies ?

Especially if you are getting it in big shop with all those displays playing beatifull hd material all the time.

Wii still sells more overall, the last few weeks being an oddity, so yes, I'm sure

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

parents buy the system the kids want, it's not usually the other way around.

For me BR already went mainstream. I haven't watched a normal DVD in years

^^ Funny, I just watched a classic 80's camp called Prayer of the Rollerboys on DVD. First DVD that I have watched in a long time and it was tough. BD rocks my world and it is all I buy, now.

For anybody complaining outside the States about prices, do what I do and import from the U.S. Tonnes cheaper! There are shit loads now for $9.99. Gotta love region free BD's.

Shipment costs and potential customs fees/taxes would eliminate or greatly reduce the savings.

Besides, I thought most BR discs were region locked?

If anything, Blu-Ray killed the PS3. Had PS3 used a DVD drive instead, it might actually be competiting head to head with the Wii instead of being 30 million units behind after 3 years and reaching no where near the brand's potential established by the PSX and PS2.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

I still think it'll take a bit longer, but I'm planning on buying a Blu-Ray player this holiday season.

about as much as dvd helped ps2 ;)
