Forums - Nintendo - IGN editor: No worthwhile Wii games have released since 2007.

"so my opinion will remain as valid as it is now, regardless of how many hardware and software units move for Nintendo."

Except that the companies can't make those games for the other systems forever if the Wii keeps outselling them.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

The sad thing is that outside of Punch Out, Muramasa, Madworld, and Little King's Story, 2009 has sucked for the wii, and even wiiware has gotten way more interesting games, that alone isn't something to brag about.

Contensious blog!! I agree with a lot of what he wrote. The "HD Twins" whail on the Wii in every way imaginable. I'm a life-long Nintendo fan and the Wii no longer interests me at all, Soooo glad they were impossible to find for so long or I may have wasted $$$ on the crappiest home-console since the...Saturn? 3DO? I don't know. But the Wii is a software wasteland. LOOK at it's fall-holiday lineup. LOOK AT IT!

3... 2... 1...

I may have gone overboard in my Wii-slamming. I know it has some good games. I will stick to my opinion that the Wii is the weakest of the current consoles though....oh hell it IS one of the crappiest consoles ever. It is the best of all the bad consoles in history however. The champion of losers. The king of crap if you will....

It's a matter of opnion how good or bad a holiday line-up is and i say the Wii's will be the most popular, which will make your opinion pretty redundant. The public will vote with their wallets then we will see who is right.

LOTS of crap games sell on the Wii. Sales do not = quality, so my opinion will remain as valid as it is now, regardless of how many hardware and software units move for Nintendo. Mcdonalds sells more cheap Junior Chicken sandwiches than The Strip House sells expensive sirloin steaks. The public can choose Mcdonalds all they want, that sirloin is still a higher quality product. But enough analogy, it serves little purpose. The PS3 and 360 have more great games coming out in October (or September or November for that matter) than the Wii does in the next half a year. By the measure of any serious gamer with a critical mind, the Wii does not stack-up well to the HD twins. Not in hardware, online gaming, overall system feature sets, and not in software. Again, the Wii is the first Nintendo console I have not purchased, so it's not that I'm an anti-Nintendo fanboy, I just don't like/want the Wii.

Like anything, your view of 'cheap' is your own.  Your analogy is haphazard at best, as simply replacing McDonalds with Jack in the Box produces two restaurants with a Sirloin product.  And even then, McDonalds (and many other Fast Food chains) are producing similar 'higher end' burgers.  And this is where your analogy falls by the wayside.  One person might think only the HD systems are worth pursuing because they buy into this notion that its 'higher quality'.  But while the Wii is not as powerful or have as much focus on online gaming as the HD systems, its entirely your opinion if the games are as good or if the system lacks 'features'.

Also, I get tired of people claiming Wii is the only system where 'crap' games sell.  Are you claiming the other systems don't have shovelware?  And where were you last gen xomplaining about the 'crap' games on the PS2/XBOX?  Tons of crap games sold on the PS2, but you're only making a big deal about it now because the Wii is outselling the 'superior' HD systems you personally think should be selling better.  If you don't like the Wii, then don't buy it and move on.  I don't see why people are so vocal against the system.

Six upcoming games you should look into:

Is this supposed to be a list of acclaimed games for the year or YOUR list of good Wii games for the year?  If the former you missed more than a couple.

To be honest I TOTALLY agree with the article. I can see how anyone can honestly say they cant.

I was a HUGE Nintendo fanboy. I mean huge. I owned every Nintendo system up to the wii. The Snes is my all time fave console.

I'll be honest, even Nintendos core games like Mario and Mario Kart, MP etc have all got IMO worse this gen. MKwii is the WORST mario kart game ever made. There is no longer any skill in that game.

There is so much rubbish on the Wii and VERY little to cater at all for a hardcore Nintendo fan of old that it saddens me seeing the games lineup in stores everytime I go in. I would own 3 games on the Wii. Thats it. I would also dodge some first party titles they have totally dumbed down and ruined for the sake of casuals.

Great article.

So am I to understand you don't actually own a Wii or MKWii? That would explain why you don't think it requires skill. People who are bad at the game often blame it for being too random. I also love how you claim all the games have gotten worse so far this gen, but probably don't actually have the time to play them all seeing as you haven't bought the system.

I have actually lived in a household whichhas one for the last 6 months. Long story recession.

Anyway, MKWii has been dumbed down alot. I played MK64 non stop for 2 years. Major multiplayer. That game is infinately better and much more skilled.

I like Galaxy, TP and The Conduit. But from what Ive played and watched over the last 6 months, it has completely put me off one. I love my Mario games and any Nintendo first party franchise to be honest. But the newer versions just dont have that Nintendo magic that made them so amazing. It just feels like they are cashing in now. Something I never thought Nintendo would do to it's core audience. Believe me, it hurts to say it. They are the only company I have ever been a true gaming fanboy of EVER. But in reality I really am disapointed.

To say there is no skill required in this game implies you either have none in this particular game and hence the difficulty or you didn't play it enough. Now it has it's annoyances and some balancing issues but Mario Kart Wii takes as much or more skill in racing than any game in the series since the first, including Mario Kart 64. Mario Kart 64 still has the best battle mode in the series though.

Try and get a 9999 online ranking and i promise that by the time you do you will appreciate the amount of skill required in this game.

Interesting back pedaling here. From "There is no longer any skill in that game," to "[MK64 requires] much more [skill]." You also have not explained which games it is you feel were dumbed down. Metroid Prime 3 is just the same as ever. Metroid Prime 1+2 were ported over as well for new controls. Mario Party 8 is pretty "casual" but is that new? Punch-out is the same rote memorization it has always been. Fire Emblem is still ridiculously hardcore. SSBB continues to walk that fine line between casual party game, and deep fighter.

Which games exactly have been dumbed down? Since you have seen, and played so much over the last few months I am certain you won't have trouble citing examples right?

Edit: Also include exactly why MKWii is so much less skilled now if you wouldn't mind. I have played the game just as long, and do not know what you are talking about. The only major difference is the removal of snaking. All this does is re-emphasise the importance of track knowledge. Other than that there is a stat system, and a whole new class of car to consider which seems like it would take more skill to truly dominate.

No I am not.  I am saying that reviewers and game developers have been using the negative, 'Nintendo is casual crap' mentality that the internet has been pushing since the middle of the GameCubes life cycle.  And it just gets more intense (and more obvious) every year as Nintendo continues to grow more and more dominant in sales.

In other words, outbursts like this are just going to become more prominant as Reviewers have no more material to use against the Wii except 'lol no games' and 'dur Gamecube 2.0'.  Reviewers are finding they have less and less impact this generation, except on people who want to fight over which is better, Halo 3 or Killzone 2

what are you talking about??? Reviewers are not biased agianst the wii. 2nd best ranked game this generation is Super Mario Galaxy. Those people you are refering to are not rewievrs and developers, they are typical fanboys and haters.

And after that one game.....?

Yeah.  Aside from Metroid Prime 3 and Mario Galaxy, reviewers across the board are panning the Wii as an 'inferior and obsolete toy'.  One game getting a high score doesn't make all their critisisms and jabs at the Wii go away.  Just like last gen with the GameCube.  Just because Resident Evil 4 got high scores, it doesn't mean they thought highly of the GameCube itself.

Well, none of PS360 exclusive game got that high score ( except Unchrated 2 but its only based on 5 reviews)

And after that one game:

Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess (higher score than Halo 3 and Killzone 2 ) (2007)

World Of Goo (same score as Halo 3) (2008) THRID PARTY

SSBB (2008)

Rock Band 2 (2008) THRID PARTY

Metriod Prime Triology (2009)

RE4 Wii edition (2007) THRID PARTY

Beatles: The Rock Band (2009)THRID PARTY

Guitar Hero 5 (2009) THRID PARTY

Okami (2008) THRID PARTY

Metriod Prime 3 (2007)

Tigger Woods 10 (2009) THRID PARTY

Zack & Wicki (2007) THRID PARTY

Little King's Story (2009) THRID PARTY

Bomberman Blast (2008) THRID PARTY

Boom Blox Blash Party (2009) THRID PARTY

Punch-Out!!! (2009)

Guitar Hero World Tour (2008) THRID PARTY

Gutar Hero 3 (2007) THRID PARTY

Tetris Party (2008) THRID PARTY

MaBoShi: The Three Shape Arcade (2008) THRID PARTY

Super Paper Mario (2007)

Guitar Hero Metalica (2009) THRID PARTY

Boom Blox (2008) THRID PARTY

Those are all Wii games above 85 on metacritic, so how can reviewers and thrid üarty developers be biased agianst the wii?
