Forums - Sony - GT5 DAMAGE on ALL CARS confirmed by IGN

This isn't very good news..."scratches and stuff" doesn't constitute much in the way of realism. Only race cars seem to have deformation damage. I couldn't care less about mechanical damage (though I guess it is a cool feature) but having car slam into eachother and only see scratches is underwhelming... Seriously underwhelming.

For one thing, it's still under the works. Also, it's a contractual matter. Having some damage is better than none.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

So they just decided "**** it let's make this game even more epic and add even better damage" Not like I'm complaining I got enough games to play right now until GT5 comes out next march.

"Now, even though the Subaru looked like death and the Benz/Ferrari looked scratched up, all three drove like crap after the accidents. Whereas I could fly around in the rides beforehand, now I felt tension in the wheel when I'd be driving down a straightaway and cornering was tougher than ever."

this interest me the most, car shouldn't even be drivable anymore when you come 300km/h straight in to a wall.

Doesn't Forza 3 have damage?

Yes, so?

mechanical damage is what really matters. If you can grind your car around the outside of a turn and continue your race unaffected other than visuals the damage is pointless. Also, I wouldn't expect lifelike damage, as then the game is totally unforgiving, but rather a reduced damage. So if you make contact with another car or a wall you aren't instantly out of the race, but rather you are penalized with poor steering until you can get to the pit and get it fixed.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

Doesn't Forza 3 have damage?

Yes, so?

So why cant GT, backed by much bigger financial and brand power,, fight out a contract that would allow the same level of damage as in F3? Why can a much smaller franchise in the same genre get something done that apperently GT cant?

For one thing, GT has more cars than Forza. Also, like I said, the damage is in the works, so we can't judge until the game is out. Not only that, but as nordlead said, the mechanical damage is the most important thing. You'll be punished either way for reckless driving.

Definitive.

OT: Good news, lets hope the damage modeling is actually rather good though

You can count on it. Polyphony doesn't fuck around when it comes to cars. They wouldn't put out a game with half assed damage.

Forza has mechanical damage also, I would know ive been obsessively playing the demo.

Either one of your axles could slant, ive heard they can fall off but hasn't happened to me. The engine could get shot, at varying levels of severity. The transmission can also get shot making it impossible to get out of the first gear or second gear and so on, depending on how severe the damage was. Or you might not be able to move at all, transmission dead.

I've also stayed on a track for over 40 mins so damaged that i could only go about half a mile an hour and eventually got hit enough times that my engine was hit back into place and i was able to hit 49mph on the audi R8!!! but i still couldnt make it up a hill and then a car clipped my left side rear doing like 110 and flipped me...needless to say, i was back at square one.
