Forums - Sales Discussion - Wii 10 mln. or PS3 5 mln. in Japan. Who first?

I really do expect SW3 to do good numbers, it was pretty high in the most wanted list, so i think it'll break 200k FW.

I think we're gna see December a big month for both consoles, actually Massive month. the thing is that NSMB will surely have better legs, so Wii hardware numbers will hold off somewhat. And the real story will be whether Wii hardware numbers, on NSMB and ToG weeks. will balance off FF13 week. And if so which console will have the bigger momentum. Its kinda exciting just thinking about it, but one thing is for sure, its gonna be a Massive massive month saleswise.

Common now. nsmbwii is a ds port of a shit mario game isnt it? I admit I must be way off here. Its just amazing to me how much I follow everything that is video games, but nsmbwii is so soooo far off my radar, that I could not give a damn.

This gen is completely backwards. Up is down, black is white, and apparently nsmbwii is a game that will sell tons more than Final Fucking Fantasy.

NSMBWII is a good game it will sell tons of copies but it wont sell more Consoles than FF 13. PS3 has a big momentum in Japan and will gain a lot of sales. Wii has to sell 128k more copies then the PS3. The whole year it was significantly down in Japan. If the WII wont be way ahead of the PS3 in the Week of NSMB then there is no chance that the WII will win this battle.

Momentum's on PS3's side and I definitely think it's looking to clear 5m before Wii hits 10m. FFXIII helps, but I don't think it's the differentiator here and I don't honestly expect it to be as major a hardware driver as Famitsu (500k on top of whatever PS3 does this year).

Short term, it just makes sense.  PS3 has the early lead now, and Wii hasn't gained the same sort of momentum as hoped through it's price drop and new software.

Iwata's been pretty upfront about their performance in Japan this year too, even calling it an outright "failure".  They better come out guns blazing next year (AAA 1st party games, steady stream of desirable 3rd party games, additional pricedrop, model redesign) or I think Japan's in serious trouble for Wii.  They need to line up some DQ remakes/spinoffs, Level-5 games and more Monster Hunter asap.

Indeed that will change in a few weeks,with FF XIII and holidays.

I see the Ps3 going 4 million+ after holidays.
