Forums - Microsoft - Are the sales figures for the Xbox 360 Accurate?

Like so many of you out there, I have experienced the RROD.  This hasnt happen once or twice but five times.  I have sent the faulty ones back twice and exchanged two faulty ones for a lower priced new one.  This means I am now on my 6th Xbox.

I have an Xbox upstairs and one down.  Which with such a high failure rate is a nightmare.

So taking this into account and knowing that many of you will be like me and cant wait for the repair procedure, how many Xboxs are actually out there.

It would be interesting to know.

id say theyre pretty accurate because its still sold 30 million+. even if its only to 25 million people lol

Long Live SHIO!

I think the numbers are an accurate portrayal of the install base.. Otherwise the software wouldnt add up.

The numbers are accurate, theres no other way to explain the software sales.

They're accurate with how much has been sold. No one knows how many are in people's homes. PS2s numbers are probably a little inflated as well cause people bought new ones after disc read error.

Well its really the install base Im talking about. I cant be the only person to have bought a new xbox when one failed. And if so many are failing then I would say the install base is probably 20-25 million at the maximum.

To be honet I think they're not accurate.

So you think halo 3 was sold to nearly 50% of the install base? Absurd. Given that halo 3 sells roughly 30k per week and the 360 sells roughly 150k per week WW, i migh tbe off on the hardware, but regardless, it should if we extrapolate the halo 3 software sales to new buyers its cloer in line with a 32 million install base overal for attach rate.

Just an example, but seriously, no way there are less than 30 million, no way.

@ exit - I caution you, I have a sword that gives me an extra d6 damage against trolls. And it's fire damage so it can't be regenerated.

Now, to point out some of your mistakes

Even if one person owned all the 360's that had been sold, its install base would be the same. Because you own 2 360's, you add 2 to the 360's installed base.

Technicalities out of the way, consider this - the 360 has a much higher attach ratio (ratio of software to hardware sales) than either the PS3 or Wii. Taken from this weeks data, the consoles have the following attach ratio
PS3 6.24
Wii 6.26
360 7.93

I present to you an opposing theory - Microsoft's fast response to customer service issues and the extension to the 3 year warranty has prevented what you have stated from occuring.

Sorry but youre so wrong.  If 1 person bought all of the 360s say 30 million, and half of them failed then the install base would be 15 million.  Unless that person decided to also get the broken ones fixed.  Like I said in my post, 2 of the broken 360s were not fixed.  they were exchanged for a lower priced 360.  So instaead of paying £129 for a new one I paid £99 but I had to give my broken one in return.

Oh, well that's your own fault for being unaware of MS's return policies. But lucky for you it's not too late. Go up to the store that made you pay to get a new xbox instead of fixing your old ones for free and say 'By charging me, you are not meeting your legal responsibilities. Microsoft guarenteed that any xbox 360 suffering from the 'Red Ring of Death' will be exchanged for free in the first 3 years of its life. I advise you to return me my money or I shall see you in court'

Being as you are probably the only person in the world unaware that you can get your console fixed for free, I would say VChartz overtracked by exactly 2 consoles.
