Yeah they lose I don't know how much lets say $50-100 per console. I don't know what the number is only Sony does. In the last 3 weeks PS3 has sold like a million units compared to like 300,000 or something last year. Those extra 700,000 people need games, maybe an extra controller each, maybe a headset.
That was Sony's plan all along, take the hit on the console sale and make it up in games/accessorie sales. And combine that with the fact that the PS3 singlehandedly gave Blu-ray the edge over HD-DVD (and the Warner bros. deal :)) I think Sony did all they thought they could do.
