Amaterasu. And the entire thing is based on Japanese mythology.

The same guys who worked on the Gameboy Zelda games are the one's who made Okami. So I think it's safe to say that they borrowed quite a bit from their work on Zelda.
Prepare for termination! It is the only logical thing to do, for I am only loyal to Megatron.

The people who are saying it's like Zelda are talking about gameplay not plot Aspostrovich. In gameplay it's very similar. You have a similar single-button attack style. You have many different tools which you gain as you go through the game at a rate of one per dungeon (the brush strokes) which are then used to solve puzzle based dungeons. You even have a little fairy-type helper who helps with puzzles.
That said, Okami is a great game and has a very unique art style and plot. It should be recognized for that and not constantly compared to Zelda. Even if they use very similar gameplay, Okami is a great game and it's only real flaw was it's instanced combat and the fact that it was really easy.

RE4 was already very successful in its PS2 and GC iterations and it sold magnificently; Okami isn't even (practically) a re-release. It's like a new game, especially with the controls Capcom is certain to add.

I think everyone is getting the wrong "spin-off" meaning.
Okami shares some similarities in gameplay and such with Zelda, but spin-off is a totally diferent thing.
I never played this game completely, so I will buy it on day one for Wii :D

I still need to pick this game up for the ps2. I'm pretty sure it's still being sold on Amazon.
Okami with neat Wii controls at a budget price. Follow what RE4 does and BAM!
Profit!
Okay, I can't read French. Is this serious? 'Cuz if it's not, I will hunt down the OP and punish him for getting my hopes up.

It's spreading now :), looks like we'll have it confirmed soon :P.
The ps2 version went past me, and when I saw it I really wanted it. By then though, I had a Wii, so figured I'd wait for a Wii version, as I just knew it'd kick arse :P.
Okami Wii could easily fill the void I'm bound to get during the summer :).
