We could say many things about its 3,000,000+ launch. "It's Halo!" "Look at the advertisments!" "So much hype!"...

But when the game continues to sell so well two years later, the reason becomes all the more clear: It's a great game all around.

Congratulations to the Master Chief. What a way to finish the fight.

The advertisements had this much of an everlasting effect. Everyone knows that Halo is the bread and butter of the Xbox.

Yeah sure.  New 360 owners who purchase a brand new copy of Halo 3 because they saw a advertisement two years ago.

When many people buy a 360, Halo is bound to be on their mind. I just mean it got very strong publicity. I'm not saying the advertisements are the only reason.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

Very nice, congrats to Microsoft for the great experience.

True, true. I was just talking about Halo sales specifically.

It's the pinnacle of the 360 lineup. When people buy a video game system, generally they buy a game with it. What are people more apt to buy when they pick up a 360... Halo 3. Thus it continues to sell.

Can really compare that with almost any system even the Wii which already has a game bundled with it. You'll notice throughout sales some games that will have pretty decent "legs" as we call it here. That has to do with either continued hype of a game while current userbase picks it up, or because this is a game that is causing systems to be sold. Mario Kart Wii, Brawl, and Wii Fit are very good examples of that on the Wii. Super Mario 64 was a great example of the case on N64.

Most people don't seem to recognize, though, that outside of Japan games with legs generally are your system sellers. Well specific ones of course. Even today games like Halo 3, Mario Kart Wii, etc are system sellers.

Astonishing. Well done MS.
