You want a Turn-Based JRPG, big, next-gen, epic, deep with emotions, with dreams written by a master?

LOST ODYSSEY.

Well said Neoraf! Lost Odyssey is awesome. It's basically a Final Fantasy game, considering Sakaguchi and Uematsu worked on it. Amazing game.

All the good turn-based RPGS games this gen are on handhelds.

The best one is on PC: "King's Bounty: The Legend".

Elven legacy is nice one too, (Right click + view for zoom.)

Kings Bounty isn't RPG - it's strategy or at most strategy-rpg hybrid.

Atelier Rorona will be turn based and that's Summer 2010!

Eh, I think you're being too generous. LO didn't have half the polish and effort that a Final Fantasy receives.

In that case none of the jrpgs are RPG. :)

And what would be pure turn-based rpg? Well, lets say that nethack is one of them.

I did tear up during one of the cutscenes in Lost Odyssey and several times during the dreams. Honestly though I feel that the overall plot in Lost Odyssey was mediocre (easily above-average by jrpg standards though). The dreams were excellent but that can't carry an entire game. And the dreams were written by an award-winning Japanese author, not Sakaguchi. It just goes to show how much better real authors are at creating stories than jrpg scenario writers. Sakaguchi has his moments but he's not consistently good.

King's Bounty is one of the best Turnbased RPGs ever. The reason it's called a Strategy-RPG is because the combat of King's Bounty requires ALOT of Strategy, something that JRPGs fail to provide.

Really, what's the point in having a turn-based combat if it has no strategy whatsoever? JRPGs are awful from that point of view, because even though they use turn-based, they give no actual benefit, such as not having strategy. The main reason for having a turn-based is to allow deeper mechanics to flourish, mostly being strategy, tactical combinations and micromanagement... JRPGs barely do anything of that!
