Forums - Nintendo - Wii still causing lines.

I was out shopping for some stuff early on sunday and saw about 20 people lining up outside Toys R' Us.  I asked what they were doing and they stated they were waiting for Wii's.

Anectdotal evidence, but still kind of amazing since we are coming up on a year since launch.  Something tells me this holiday season will be HUGE for the Wii.  If Nintendo can ship enough.  They could likely sell 5-8 millions between now and the end of the year.

and the scare thing is there is not many good wii games out (which I don't own already).

Bloody AUS and its damn delays.

Yeah. there arent queues where i am, but u still cant buy them here in Scotland without havin to look around everywhere

Fascinating.

I'm hoping they moved Wii Fit forward into December for both Europe and North America. I think Wii Fit will guarantee that every system released is sold. It seems that they are going to try and rely on the hardcore gamer to purchase up all the systems this year. I think we need a more even split between Galaxy fans and Casual gamers to keep the motor running throughout next year.

After I picked up my Niece and Nephew's Wii (their 'Santa' christmas present) for my Sister in Law I was surprised by the number of people who asked me "How did you find one?" ...

I suspect that in November there will be a 10 person line-up of people in front of every store that sells Wii systems on Saturday and Sunday in hopes of finding one for Christmas.

I wonder how this sales explosion is going to affect game sales for the Wii, last year the Wii saw a lot of success for third parties who were picking up the games with their system purchase before Christmas. I wonder if some of the lower performing games such as The Sims or Boogie will see sales jump due to people picking up games that they know nothing about.

I forsee Galaxy under many people's tree's. I hope Metroid gets a nice boost for the rest of the year as well. If any game deserves a few million sales it's Metroid.

This is (obviously) one of the reasons why companies depend so much on licences and related IPs. My Sims, Madden, Metroid Prime, and other well known titles will (probably) get a healthy boost.

This holiday period will be madness for all consoles but especially for the Wii.

Yes Nintendo Wii remains in massive demand continueing to sell out within hours of arriving on shelves. As someone already pointed out its selling so extremely well considering the evident lack of quality software.

But with Mario:Galaxy , BattalionWars:II , MarioKart and Brawl all coming up the Wii isn't going anywhere. Their is no way in hell that Nintendo is going to loose any market share. Even with halo3 being released Nintendo continues to drive the market and maintain a lead over its much older brother (360).

With Nintendo's ability to produce extremely high quality software I don't see them going anywhere. Infact I wouldn't be suprised if next fall people are still lining up in some locations across North America still unable to find a Wii. Nintendo will be able to keep demand fairly high despite rising competition and with AAA+ quality software headed to shelves soon don't expect Sony or Microsoft to make any gains!
