I still say they could have swept the holiday season either way, except in Japan. This move is just going to help clear out that stock that they've built up from over-producing it for the past year.

it's from the information service for best buy employees. forget what it's called |
It's called Employee News (or Hot News) and it's in our toolkit. I can verify this if I stop by my job today, but I'm off!
If it's true, it means great things for Nintendo.
They had to do this in order to have a chance of attaining the shipment forecasts...

No way will the UK price come down. Our price depends on the price in Euro's..and the weak value of the pound means we're currently paying £45 less than the rest of europe at the current exchange rate (we should really be paying around £225 in the UK when compared to the rest of Europe).
If Europe gets a price cut from 249 euros to 199 euros..all that does is bring them into line with the UK (199 Euros = £179 pounds).
The UK won't get a decent official cut unless the pound recovers.
Your best bet is to keep an eye out for supermarket offers (Asda and Sainsburys were selling the Wii for £150 a few weeks ago) or just look for a decent bundle.

Well said, but to reinforce your point even more it should be noted that UK retailers already suffered a price increase on the Wii (which they didn't pass on to the customer).
This means that if the Wii gets a small price cut in the UK, it might not even affect the retail price, instead retailers will go back to their initial profit margin.

Shame on the person who took that pic and blatantly plunked it on the internet. That's some employee, when you're specifically told to keep it quiet, you decide to let only the whole world know... :s

I don't think Ninty needed it in terms of profit, but they're the only ones who really know that...
In terms of marketshare and total sales, it was obvious... Now they need to do something cool with the NSMBWii launch (bundles, limited editions, etc.).
| Soriku said: How's a price cut bad? Price cut = more sales = more games. D'oh. Good move. The Wii should get a NSMB Wii bundle too though. |
I think they're waiting to announce something regarding that. That would explain why this, and the Amazon date confirmation for NSMBWii, emerged around the same time. Nintendo's letting retailers know slightly in advance, but they'll announce it to the world together, and possibly integrated as a bundle
