Forums - Nintendo - As expected, TMNT and Spyborgs sucks...

"As for publishers griping about not selling, I think it's a way overblown internet concept. Really, how often do publishers have to come out and say they are happy with their Wii sales to get this across to people. Games like No More Heroes having sequels happen aren't happening because games aren't selling. And there is a ton of 3rd party game support that has started to appear this year."

It's the fact that HD games get bigger sales, while ignoring that the high cost means they need those bigger sales, and that HD games are usually deliberately in more popular genres, whiles Wii games can afford to be niche.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

They're not masterpieces, but how many games are anyway?

The problem with most reviewers, is the so-called "target audience"... when a Wii game is made for a younger audience, they just don't get it, and review it with their own expectations of what "all games" should be, PS360 games with uber-graphics, with the control method they're used to, and in the genres they like most, and only...

Plus, when a game is too difficult, it gets bad reviews for it, and when it's too easy, same thing... i've seen many Wii reviews where you could easily guess the reviewer had poor skills, and didn't even finish the game: and of course, he'll blame the wiimote, but never himself...

Plus, most Wii games don't deserve higher scores anyway: some efforts are made, but most devs don't want to spend extra-dollars on some extra-polish and features, as they're never sure they will get their money back... some games become minor hits, some games become minor flops, but they'll never know before the release, and are too risk averse...

Of course, last gen, by the time PS2 had sold 50-60 millions, all efforts were made to optimise any game for it, and the other consoles were left in the dust... and risk was a normal part of the business, as most budgets were affordable anyway... but with Wii, strangely, the same logic isn't valid anymore...

Maybe because most of the gaming "journalists" and "analysts" have told the industry for four years now, that Wii was...

First, a guaranteed future flop (not worth any investment). Second, a "casual success" that won't last anyway (not worth any investment). Third, a too-limited console already outdated that pleases only the "non-gamers" (not worth any investment). Such a propaganda has strong effects when all this sh** is brought on the table in most interviews and reviews...

There's just so many things wrong this gen... and of course, thousands and thousands of poorly titled threads all over the net don't help... this is just another one, and another day on VGC...

i agree. there are a few gems such as little kings story and muramasa, and madworld, that are great games, but reviewers such as ign tend to overrate them to compensate for giving out so many low scores to most shovelware and average games.

The same way your killing english?

Pretty sure we want to see more developers take chances with games like  Sypborgs on the Wii, its not outstanding but its still pretty good. Im buying it even if it will try to murder my Wii.

What the hell happend to Spyborgs. Last time I saw it, it looked like a quirky Ratchet and Clank style platformer come shooter, perfect for the Wii market and a lot of fun.

Now its just some grey, generic brawling game with no reason at all to stand out. They've completely sucked the life out of the game...

I hate when someone sees a 7 plus score they think these games tend to suck , one of the greatest game for me this gen has been No more Heroes and it scored below 8 at ign, yes maybe these games have some flaws but in the end its the fun factor that counts and not the score.

i think its because "hardcore" gaming is going downhill.look at what was hardcore a gen or two back and compare it to what is seen as hardcore now. the so called hardcore keep trying to hold themselves to higher and higher standards. like spoiled children they get a taste of what is a really good game to them and want all games to conform to what they want. i love about all games. in my experience, the moment people start taking them to seriously is when things go south.

You got a real point here, Maelstrome.

I can see a lot of players out there really act not like children, but as crazy people! Ready to argue, brag and even make death threats over an internet argument about their favorite videogames.

C~mon, remember when a Sonic fan threatened to kill Matt Casamassina and his family because of the Sonic and the Dark Knight review? That was downright bizarre.

Over here we´re talking, but the subject aint fanboysm, its lack of innovation leading to lack of sales.

Lack os sales which, by the way, takes us to lack of new and good titles, and makes everybody unhappy.

What´s the basic difference between those two games: No More Heroes and Spyborgs?

That difference that made No More Heroes into a franchise, with lots of fans through the internet, and will make Spyborgs forgotten in a few weeks?

NMH had style. A wacky style. Meaning a main hook to keep you playing.

Even if it was (very) flawed, it kept you interested. (i liked the motion control too!!!)

Spyborgs, as far as read about it, do not have any of this.

Is just a brawler, nothing stands.

TMNT certainly does not suck. It definitely didn't live up to its potential (damn roster), but it's a solid Brawl clone (which i can now say definitively, because Amazon delivered it a day early, and i've had an hour to test all the basic characters), which makes it better than pretty much every other fighting game out there by default

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
