I'm limiting this to PS3 and multiplat (on PS3) because that's what I have to play on. Nothing against 360 and Wii exclusive FPS games, I just can't play them 'cause I don't have the machine. So please don't come here and recommend Halo 3 or The Conduit.

I'm not a big fan of FPS, but I occasionally get a hankering for a bit of FPS action. I've played a bit of Wolfenstein and Red Faction on PS2.

As such I'm not all that interested in getting into FPS multiplayer. So I need to know which of the current crop of FPS games that I can play on PS3 has the best / most enjoyable / longest story mode for single player action.

I see a lot of FPS games get rated up or down in reviews based a lot on the multiplayer experience, so I'm not sure how much I can take from review scores. I read somewhere the KZ2 story mode was not terribly deep or engaging and it was short, as an example. So while I'm tempted to give KZ2 a go because of people's praising of the graphics, if the story mode doesn't cut it then maybe graphics isn't enough of a reason.

So over to you. What's the best FPS game for my needs?

Bioshock.

Bioshock, CoD4 has a pretty good campaign. The first Resistance is pretty good, but skip R2 unless you want to play the multiplayer or Co-op.
It's 3rd person and a stealth game, but MGS4 has a great story and it is beautiful.

Orange Box ...5 FPS in one! ..and its only 19$ anywhere from Walmart to Bestbuy etc.

Dunno who ever said KZ2 campaign is short it took me like 9 hours to beat it but if you don't like short campaign skip COD4 and just w8 for Modern warfare 2 and see if it has longer campaign.

Resistance 2 is worth the buy... Though KZ2 is a must.

Bioshock has the best one

Killzone 2 is very good too

For single player only I wouldn't recommend Killzone 2; IMO it is a damn good looking, but rather standard FPS (in campaign mode).

I'm not sure how bad the problems of The Orange Box are on PS3, but if you get feedback from someone who has played it on the PS3, that may be a good choice. Bioshock is an excellent FPS if you haven't played that yet either.

Story-wise, Orange Box would be a good choice, especially end of HL2: Ep2 which was really well done. Bioshock as well has a good story that kept me entertained. CoD4 is very good in terms brilliant set-pieces that make you sit back and go "Holy shit!", but is also a little on the short side.

If you want a brilliant campaign I can't completely recommend Killzone 2 or the Resistance games. The campaigns are good, but they lacked some magic in the single player mode. Also the campaigns are again quite short, although gameplay wise they are still fun. If you can get them cheap though then go for them.

cod4,you should get kz2 for the online...
