Forums - Gaming - Is Nintendo Using The Wii To Target The PSP Go?/Nintendo Faster than Natal?

79 posts -9436 VG$ ??

Anyway, Nintendo have no reason to fear the PSP:Go. The Wii price cut is to increase sales of the Wii. It is not to decreases sales of any other console or handheld. Nintendo do not roll that way.

Nintendo already experimented with camera technologies, and decided that gyroscopes were better

Around the Network

nintendo's developers wouldnt want to do something like Natal, they want to give the player feedback and believe its very important

Wii is cutting their price to accelerate sales through the holidays. It's not really a competitive move. They've got projections to meet, and they want to make sure they meet them.

Although, you have a point, PSP Go is way overpriced. DSi and iPhone are better.

I'm skeptical of Natal as I'm sure Nintendo is as well. It will be interesting to see some more demos later on to see exactly what Microsoft has in mind.

Besides, if Nintendo is still following Disruptive Innovations and Blue Ocean Strategy, they won't want to directly compete with Microsoft. Nintendo's next method of "control" lies in whatever they have planned for the Vitality Sensor.

PSP Go is not a threat for the DS it isn`t even a threat for the PSP 3000. I think Sony want just to try how the market would respond i am sure the PSP Go will fail.

Nintendo makes nothing like NATAL they said after E3 they are not worried at all. To Sony Control they said Interesting thing. To Natal they said: They tried the exact same technology for the Wii before it was launched and they decided for various reasons against a 3d Camera. They tested a lot of different ways of Controls it was their main aspect while they designed the Wii.

I am sure that Natal will be a flop aswell as the PSP GO. The Sony Control will maybe do average but both wont affect Nintendo in any way. I think that after you all tested Natal you will miss holding something in the hands. A gamer needs a tactile feedback thats why Eyetoy Gaming was so lame and nobody played it longer than 60 Minutes. In best case MS will recognize their mistake quickly and add something like the Sony Wand to the Camera. The good thing about Natal is that they can do a lot of things with it but as they used it on E3 it will be a Flop. As they showed natal and Sony Wand on stage you could clearly see the difference.

The girl which was playing this ball game with natal was completly exhausted after 5 minutes. playing complex games and to make it fun is a hard task for a camera. Then they made a picture with both Sony Wand and Natal. The Picture they made with Natal was ugly and looked like a kids painting with 3. With the Sony Wand they made something similar and it looked suprisingly pretty acccurate (cant remember what it actually was) I saw both presentations and the Sony Wand was clearly the Winner in my eyes. I think the people are blinded of the beautiful ads MS made. It wont be a better balance board as the balance board and it looks funny but I cant imagine the actual gameplay could be fun. Its just like the Eyetoy the people think what a great thing and they think how much fun it would be but in the end its not.

The only thing i saw on the presentation which was cool was the way how you used the Xbox Menu (similar to the Iphone). Those chatting things were cool to. The Natal is good technology and they could do a lot of things with it but JUST using Natal is crap. Using it additional with something like the Sony Wand that would be way cooler. The way how they accelerated this racing game with the distance between your hands what a stupid thing and stering in the air it would feel just stupid not because you look like an idiot no because it feels just stupid did someone try to imagine steering that way a racing game or a fighting game ? Or just another game ? How they drew that picture I can feel how it would annoy me.

Natal itself is as I stated a before a great technology with a great potential. They could do something good with it. But I dont have the feeling that MS is able to handle that. Another reason why I believe it wont be as cool as many think is because Nintendo decided against it.

Nintendo tested a 3d Camera before and it did not came out of the developing studios so: NO Nintendo is not going to release something like Natal. They thought a lot about their controlling device and its great. They wont change it this Generation. Why should they ?

To the other question a Home Console has never the same market as a Handheld, it is the same reason why the people won`t buy a SUV if they want a Roadster even if the SUV is cheaper.

PSP was a lot more expensive then a GameCube but the people bought still the PSP. If someone wants a protable device he won`t care if he could buy a Home Console for 50 Bucks less. Price is not all what matters. The people bought still an Ipod for 300 Dollars instead of a cheap MP3 Player for 29 Dollars and they are atleast both in the same market. Handhelds and home Consoles are targeting at different people. I never heard of someone who bought a homeconsole because it was cheaper, if he wanted something what he could take outside and put in the pocket.

The PSP Go is just not the right Console for our time. I prefer to buy a game in the shop it is nice to actually have something. And especially not for that Price and a smaller display and in my eyes with pretty ugly design. Nintendo cares not about it the same goes for the rest of the World.

And Natal is a good technology but not for the purpose MS wants it. I can imagine that it could be a type of Control in the future with a better Software which can recognize your feelings which works together with another components as a additional way for the Console to interact with his user and could be able to realize Virtual Reality in a way we never thought of it before. Nintendo has no reason to worry about it either nor has Sony. If they need the Capabilitys for Future Gaming they can make an Eyetoy 4 and enhance the Camera (the same option has MS with the Wand they could just add it)

1) No. Handhelds do not compete with home consoles, and Nintendo couldn't care less how well the PSP GO does- they are not going to lose profit and revenue to see Sony suffer. Even if Sony would suffer.

2) ABSOLUTELY NOT. Nintendo does not copy other companies. They have a perfectly decent motion control system, and no desire to spend millions on copying that of Microsoft. Also, NATAL will not hurt the Wii.
