okay, two news stories I want to bring up for today:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/8270772.stm

^the government is introducing a broadband tax of 50p a month for fixed phone lines

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/8270320.stm

^the government has "clarified" the law on assisted suicide

this one, I want to focus on for now, what confuses me, is why its legal for them to go overseas and do it, but its not legal here? surely with the guidelines they have already suggested in place, it may as well be legal her, which would be better as it would save people loads of money, especially if it was on the NHS

guidelines they issued: (from the BBC article above)

Whether a person stands to benefit financially from assisting a suicide or if they were acting out of compassion
If the individual wanting to die was deemed competent enough and had a "clear and settled" wish to make such a decision. Particular attention would paid to issues such as being under 18, and having a mental illness
Whether the person was persuaded or pressured into committing suicide, or if it was their own decision

A) A Broadband tax?  So... a tax for people with phones?  That's stupid.  Do they WANT people to go cellphone only, i mean cellphone only does hold risks afterall.

B)  People should be allowed to commit suicide so long as a doctor oks it and they person fills out the proper forms.

b) agreed

With assisted suicide I believe the NHS should offer the facilities to do so, but the person who requests it should have a psychological profile done before they go through with it to confirm if they have sound reasoning to do so (i.e; in great pain or have a terminal illness).

I'll be voting Tory at the General Election because the finances need fixing and the communists currently in power haven't a clue.

I dont like the left which is just one of the reasons why I won't vote BNP. The ultimate in state inteference just like the national SOCIALISTS.

My ideal party would be a libertarian party but we don't have any of them unfortunately. I want Ron Paul in charge over here.

communism is the extreme form of socialism, its like China or Soviet Russia, everything is state owned, run and financed in a communist nation, the financial sector would be very heavily regulated and taxes would be extreme on pretty much anyone to pay for this, even at a push, you can only call Labour socialist, even then its only really fair to so when comparing them to other nations in terms of economic policy, in terms of financial regulation, Labour are light touch at best and essentialy Capitalist, the only socialist things Labour can be definitley seen as in favour of are: Public Healthcare & Education and Intervention to a degree after the collapse of Northern Rock, etc, even then, a Communist nation would have gone much further, well before the reccession hit even, to call Labour or any of the 3 main parties at least Communist is stupid and highly ignorant, no one should do so, to suggest that Labour and The Liberal Democrats support elements of Socialist policy is fair, but to be honest, you would be hard pressed to find many who oppose State Healthcare or Education here, even the Conservatives are unlikely to privatise either fully, the outcry from the public would be huge.

I referred to Labour as communists because half of them were commies in their youth.

Then I compared the BNP to the 'national socialists' aka Nazis.

I don't think either comment is ignorant or stupid.

proof of the Labour claim?

the BNP have socialist views in an economic sense, sure, but it would not be fair to associate socialism allways with there social views
