Forums - Sales - Will a Wii price cut send it over 50% market share before Christmas?

Your own statement answers that quite well actually....

Plenty of stock you say...... why is that I wonder?

Less demand.

In any event the Wii isnt going to outsell the HD twins by 3 times the amount it did last year no matter how much stock... no way.

Less demand at the moment, but you are crazy if you think that it will be less demand when NSMB Wii is out, especially if its bundled

It only has to outsell them by a little over 3 million, that wont be a problem as long as they have enough Wii's to sell

Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

Sure. If it cuts it's price to one dollar, it will happen easily.

No, price isn't the issue, even at $1 it would miss it if they didn't have enough stock, and at $200 or $250 they could get it if they have enough stock

I don't know about that.  I see Wiis on the shelves now.

It's not impossible to find like it once was.

Yes which is probably why they'll be able to do it, they have the stock, it isn't pricing that is affecting Wii, if it was, Wii sales would have been affected by the PS3 and 360 cuts, it wasn't, its the lack of games that has affected Wii, but Wii is getting NSMB and Wii Fit plus this fall, its sales will go back up.

I am not saying that the sales of the Wii are being affected by the price.  I am just saying that the sales would be much, much better if it cost 1 dollar.

I'd buy a few for friends this Christmas if it sold at this price.  At $249.99 or even $199.99 I am not buying a few Wiis this year.

Its okay, other people will be buying them, even if they are at $249 or $199, sales wouldn't be any better at $1 since once you are out, you're out, whether or not there is demand, you can only sell what you have, so why would Nintendo sacrifice profits when they'll sell out either way?

Then im crazy.... There WILL be less demand this xmas than last xmas... like there has been all year.

It is down 3.2m so far this year or 25%, did you miss that?

Did you miss the lack of big software releases this year? Last year it had big titles much earlier in the year, this year its been WSR, and that's it, but NSMB Wii is coming this holiday, releasing just as the holiday sales heat up, the perfect timing.

I agree that Nintendo wouldn't want to sacrifice profits.  I'm just saying that more systems would be sold at the price point of one dollar, which would definitely push the Wii over 50% at the end of the year.  As things stand, I do not see this happening by the end of this year.  The PS3 price cut hasn't hurt the Wii, but it has definitely helped Sony.

I suggest you check your sig for your other wii hardware predictions....

2 wrong so far, another 1 to be wrong soon and another will be looking very wrong by this time next year.

Sure the first two were wrong, but still got pretty close, would have made it if not for shortages, but no big deal, the 80 million may also be off, but it may still get over 70, and even if it doesn't breach the PS2's next year it'll probably get around 100 million, which will be an amazing feat for a console less than five yars old, so I'm not upset if my predictions come out wrong.

I don't think so, but if the Wii can outsell the HD consoles over the holiday season alone that will be a great feat already.

o you can't sell more consoles than you make, regardless of price, so selling it at $1 wouldn't help

But they aren't selling all of their consoles.  There are Wiis on the shelf.  This is my point.

25% drop and growing by around 150k per week......

just to get back to last years figures is now a mammoth task, to increase that is, I say again, impossible.

No not really, in fact it can easily make up the lost ground in October and surpass last year in November

Your argument would only hold if Wii sales were to remain at the same level as it is now, but with everything that's happening for Wii in the next three months, it won't remain the same
