I think gamers are a lot more mentally active when it comes to problem solving. A lot of what people find attractive about gaming is the sense of accomplishment from performing a task or solving a puzzle in a way that might not be immediately obvious to some.

I don't think a gamer is necessarily smarter than the average person however, they are more familiar with problem solving because it is a required skill for most games.
