Forums - Sony - Some thoughts about Uncharted 2.

So very very wrong.

Uncharted has only sold about 500k in forced bundles, and there is a big difference between being a launch game, and being a holiday 2007 game. The argument that there were no other games to play is complete and utter crap, Ratchet and Clank, Call of Duty 4 and Assassin's Creed all came out then, and they were all fantastic games.

The reason people expect much higher sales for Uncharted is because of the extra value. Personally, I am very happy to pay full price for an 8 hour game, because it is so good, however, without any multiplayer, many will probably have just rented this, because they think one playthrough is enough (I will be going for my 5th in the week before U2 releases). In Uncharted 2 there is co-op, multiplayer and a longer story. And what else is there in October, Brutal Legend on the same day, and while that will be a good game, don't expect huge sales from it, and then Ratchet later in the month, and I think most people will choose Uncharted 2 over Ratchet (I am getting both)

On the other hand, Resistance 2 was launched at the same time as Call of Duty World at War and Gears of War 2 (and don't say that would have not affected it, I would have bought it if it were not for Gears of War 2), while it did have 60 player multiplayer and its own co-op mode, Resistance 1 had co-op and multiplayer, so the difference is not that huge

There are no comparisons to be drawn here, the sales of the first are very different for various reasons, and the competition for the upcoming launches are different. Oh yes, did Resistance 2 win best game of E3, and have nothing but glowing previews whenever anyone has seen it? Uncharted 2 will certainly sell 3m, and I predict about 650k first week

I predict no more than 500k FW and will have strong legs like the first and end up selling close to 3m LTD.

Resistance 1 was pretty good game.
Resistance 2 sucked.

Uncharted 1 was pretty good game.
Uncharted 2 seems to be great game.

Take my love, take my land..

Uncharted sold more than 2.5 million copies simply because it's a great game. The best of the genre on PS3. Resistance 2 failed  to outsell  its original iteration because CoD4, Killzone 2 and CoD WaW are better FPSs around. Same with Motorstorm. It offers pretty similar package of content to the first one while there is pretty tough competition right now.

Dogs did their homework and Uncharted 2 is better in every single aspect to the first one. Drastically. Game will track much higher and I expect it to sell around 3,5 - 4 million lifetime.

I actually prefer Resistance 2 over Resistance fall of man, I agree 1 has superior Single Player but 2 has trophies, better online, amazing co-op and still a decent SP

Currently playing: MAG, Heavy Rain, Infamous

Getting Plat trophies for: Heavy Rain, Infamous, RE5,  Burnout and GOW collection once I get it.

Motorstorm 2 was actually a much polished and better game than 1st but like Kber81 said it needs to do more than that to persuade ppl to buy.

I agree with this.

And wth, you have 12k posts but I never saw you before? o.O
Did you have a different avatar maybe?

"And yet, I've realized that maybe living a "decent" life means you won't ever have a "good" life."

Nah with them reviews I reckon Sony will hype this one up.
I reckon we could be looking at big sales for it.
Also will have good legs IMO.

I just changed from the monkey sipping tea! (Though I had a Nate avatar last year)

With many publishers abandoning the 2009 holiday season, Uncharted may actually have less competition compared to user base then Drakes Fortune. I think that Uncharted will sell between 2.5 - 3 million lifetime. As others have already stated, there was little replayability in the original Uncharted. It probably lost many sales to rentals and the used game market.

Very few games can sell 1 million, so 2 million at a low end estimate isn't exactly a flop.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.
