So.... Phantom Hourglass does not count, I assume.

Nice job reading the topic....

Hell, even with reading the OP, the title of the thread is still misleading. 2-D versions of all of these games have come out in the past five years or so.

The "last five years" wouldn't be this generation, and I clearly specify in the topic, in the first sentence no less, that I am talking about home consoles. Reading before you comment is a great skill.

Yeah, I actually did. It's the descriptions thereafter that are more troublesome, you see.

3D Dot Game Heroes is the new 2D Zelda game this generation
was the real keeper.

Anyway.

Looks like I'll need to look into Shadow Complex, if it literally "is Metroid".

Next you'll be saying that Splosion man is 2D Sonic revival. Amusing thread by the way.

Pixel Art can be fun.

Interesting, I'm still thinking about Shadow Complex, though Metroid being a "big" franchise is questionable, since they always came at the end of a generation prior to Gamecube and never got big until the leap to 3D, however Shadow Complex is obviously 2D Metroid I noticed it from the very first video.

MaxwellGT2000 - "Does the amount of times you beat it count towards how hardcore you are?"

Wii Friend Code - 5882 9717 7391 0918 (PM me if you add me), PSN - MaxwellGT2000, XBL - BlkKniteCecil, MaxwellGT2000

Man, Naz wasn't kidding about 3D Dot Game Heroes being 2D Zelda reincarnated... they even got the chickens from Kakariko village in there!

If it was any closer to Zelda, they'd have a massive lawsuit on their hands!

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Now watching the CD Dot Game Heroes trailer, its so similar to Zelda, the music and the gameplay, that it isn't funny. Yet there is something so unique about the game.

This is the true definition of owning.

I'm not sure how Shadow Complex looks anything like Metroid from the trailer.

Super Metroid and Metroid were never about the combat and, outside of a little platforming, that's really all the trailer showed.  In fact, the gameplay showed in Shadow Complex's trailer is more reminiscent of Contra than Metroid.

On a related note, I'm still not sure what to think of Irem (developer of 3D Dot Game Heroes).  I feel like I'm the only person who remembers Bumpy Trot 2 still hasn't seen the light of day from them and it was tentatively slated for a Japan release this year at one point.

What 2D games? All I see is 3D polygon models and backgrounds with a none moving camera.

You're misinterpreting the topic.

It's not about 2D games, it's about games this generation that have similar gameplay to 2D games of past generations.

I hope that dot heroes game isn't sued for being too much like Zelda, that looks cool
