Forums - General - The new Origin Of The Species! Get ready schools....

This is sad. The US will not be the world leader in science and engineering for much longer...assuming it still holds that position.

This video is so full of fail it's depressing...Nothing like some ad hominem + propoganda + gross misinformation to enlighten todays youth.

and of course it ends with "if you love jesus pray for us and send your money to...."

If you want the full edition of the fail you can read it here.

the short version if you don't feel like watching a very annoying self righteous 6 minute video is this. Christian apologists claim that America hates Jesus, then found out that Origin of the Species is public domain, and plan on sending their own edited copy to universities through out the US, including a 50 page forward that says that Hitler is Darwins fault, Darwin was a racist misogynist, that there are no transitional fossils, or even the slightest shred of evidence to support evolution, and then some stuff about how Jesus loves us and you can only find salvation through him. And then it ends with them saying they need more money if they want to get these books into more colleges around the US.

I fully believe in evolution and I support it being exclusively taught in science classes, but I do think there may be room to teach creationism in a very general sense in other subjects if the school board and the teachers are interested. If you do a unit on the different beliefs of a variety of cultures (including the Abrahamic religions) in a subject like Social Studies it would make sense; but we have to remember that Science class is the study of the methods, facts and theories of Scientific fields and creationism is neither a method, fact nor theory of any Scientific field.

LOL! All the scientists they claimed believed in God were born in the early 19th century or earlier. Apart from Albert, his God was merely poetic rather than an actual being.

I have seen a youtube clip of Kirk Cameron on Bill OH RLY? and he is the dumbest f*ck ever.

the christian right in America is terrible.

I am angry and depressed, man do I hate ignorance and zealotry, especially (as they so often are) they are together.

Crusty VGchartz old timer who sporadically returns & posts. Let's debate nebulous shit and expand our perpectives. Or whatever.

Who cares?

So there are people out there who hold different beliefs than I do and they put them in a book... so what?

If someone wants to run around telling everyone the sky is purple while also writing books about it then good for them. As long as they're not forcing it upon me then I really don't care.

First thing I saw was Kirk Cameron, I thought instant fail. Regardless of his religious views, the guy is a nutcase. Then he starts making up bullshit about science. He goes on to say he wants to make the schools teach the opposing and correct view? And let kids make up their own minds?

Here's a crazy idea, how about you teach science in science and religion in RE?

I'm glad the British have got it right.

Nah. the US will still be tops.

We'll just increase our immigration numbers for people with high level degrees.

Brain drain... it kills.

I mean... medical science... forget about it.  We're the leaders by leaps and bounds... and you'd think that'd be pretty well related to biology.

Per capita our science output isn't amazing... but when it comes to pure numbers we more then triple the next country when it comes to published papers.

Besides... lets be honest.  Not that many people are smart enough to be scientists anyway.  So general population beleifs are going to be a lot less important then the factors that enable scientists to be scientists.

I'm just glad he didn't whip out a banana. That's my worst nightmare!
