I think Alan Wake has a better chance of doing >1m.
Anyways, I applaud the creators of Heavy Rain...theres just too many overdone genres and shovelware out there.

Not getting at you personally
But why does everyone compare Alan Wake to Heavy Rain!?
They are COMPLETELY different games, different genres etc...
But everyone compares them for some reason.

Nonsense nothing can be as good as Shenmue except perhaps Shenmue 3 "Pretty Please Sega"

I can see it starting off slow and keeping a steady pace. I would say 1.3 million ltd WW

It's always worth it if you're trying to innovate. Sony has taken on the brunt of the expenses, as explained very clearly by Mr. Cgae. I'm sure they don't expect a tidal wave of sales either, but they DO want to bring a new and innovative idea to the industry. Call me crazy but that is FAR more important than just selling 5 million copies. Luckily for the industry, companies like this still exist. It's one of the reasons I have so much respect for Nintendo, regardless of everything else, they care about innovating. |
A CGI Quality post
your words are more beautiful than Heavy Rain Graphics

Sales or not, this game is THE Playstation 3 game that I bought the system for. I hope it lives up to its pedigree.
This game will live or die based on its review scores. But given the extra time they're taking on the game, it's very likely they will polish this game up to a shine (graphically) that it will impress reviewers. Some of the character models are extremely impressive, just all the videos seem to show problems with the frame-rate, which is something that would be ironed out before the game releases.
I agree with CGI, Innovation > Sales, but in order for the game to get a sequel then it must do decent, which Heavy Rain will do.
Games like Heavy Rain,Left4Dead and Resistance 2 make this Generation great for me as a gamer. All of them new IP,Innovation at its best.
Heavy Rain has breathtaking graphics, along with one of the best stoys for a game iv seen, that and Brothers in Arms: HH.
Left4Dead- Never before has a 4 player coop game been done on consoles, this is the game you will be up all night playing with your friends.
Resistance 2- 60 player online is awesome, but the 8 or 16 (i forgot) coop, brings the war into your living room, with split screen coop that makes it better.
| Seece said: Under a million WW. If Killzone 2, a decent shooter can barely muster 2 million, a game like Heavy Rain won't make a million. Which is a great shame because I have no doubt it's going to be BETTER than K2 |
How can you judge a game if you don't own it? Renting it or playing it occasionally on another person's console doesn't count either.
Games I didn't like initially I appreciated more as I played. Games I loved initially I began to pick apart once I saw the recurring problems and long term issues (e.g. Total War series becomes less enjoyable as your campaign increases, since micromanagement becomes impossible [although that does give you the feeling of how hard it is to manage such an empire and how they fell in real life] and you aren't able to really appreciate your actions).

To the OP, I agree, I share that same fear with you. But at the same time, this game might be able to appeal to the "casual" if they get the point across that this isn't a game that really requires technical skills like you do with shooters, nor really even logic and strategy (if you take the kinda BS thing David Cage said where he wants you to accept your mistakes and deaths).

Not going to get good marketing? What game are you going to think of EVERY SINGLE TIME IT RAINS HEAVILY? Super Mario Sunshine? I don't think so. Free marketing, baby! You can't beat it!
