Forums - Sales - Heavy Rain...Heavy sales flop?

i hope the game does well, but i don't see myself getting it. i fully appreciate it's innovation, but i just don't play long-winded games anymore...don't have the time.

I think it'll be lucky to reach a million.  The type of people that own PS3s aren't gonna be into this kind of game.  You'll get a vocal minority praising it but the masses will be like, "it's not a shooter and it's not violent as hell, no thanks."  Meanwhile a soccer mom or an older Wii owner would probably look at it like, "oh, it's an interactive murder mystery, that sounds interesting"... but it's not on the Wii.

On top of all of that, I doubt the people in charge will market this to the huge audience who would be interested.  All the ads will probably be on gaming sites where the bulk of people could care less.  They need to hit places where adults will look, but they won't.  They won't even think about advertising it there and it's a shame.

How do YOU know?

My bad, I thought it was obvious that I was saying my opinion and not that i'm some time traveler from the future with factual data about the ad campaign for Heavy Rain.

Well, why do you doubt marketing?

Just keepin' it real: marketing in general doesn't always fire on all cylinders, so it's relatively *easy* to doubt.

I think the point that there is a market for this type of game, but that the message might not get to those people, is a valid concern - particularly if you want a game like this, which doesn't fall into a generally profitable category of gaming, to succeed.

You only get a very small window of time to make an impression; the "newest new" is only that for somewhere in the neighborhood of 2 or 3 weeks.  Then it's all about the next newest new.

I'm rooting for HR to succeed, but I'm not blind to the performance of previous, similar titles.

What previous, simimlar titles didn't have that HEAVY RAIN does it already seems to have PLENTY of buzz. Sure, nobody is expecting to sell boatloads, not even myself. However, in the grand scheme of things, as long as the game profits, all is well. It doesn't have to sell 5 million to be seen as a good game, or be profitable.

No simular games... shit I better check and make sure my copy of Indigo Prophecies hasn't been removed from existence by a time traveling thief!

Everyone who's in the right mind would say that over 400K would be really impressive for this game.

No one is expecting monster sales.

lol

Classic thread.

Good going Heavy rain.

Atto Suggests...:

Book - Malazan Book of the Fallen series

Game - Metro Last Light

TV - Deadwood

Music - Forest Swords

There are so much fail in this thread, but one thing is clear, I have done this with at least 3 games:

If you want your game to do well, you need Seece to say it's going flop hard.

playing right now: Xenoblade Chronicles

Hype-o-meter, from least to most hyped:  the Last Story, Twisted Metal, Mass Effect 3, Final Fantasy XIII-2, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Playstation ViTA

bet with Mordred11 that Rage will look better on Xbox 360.

Haha, nice thread, guess what, only CGI was right on with Heavy Rain's sales. He said 1.5 million, its approximately 1.5!

Brilliant.
