Exactly. It's good to see people, WHO JUST WANT A GOOD GAME, chime in more often. I suspect this thread was created to mock or taunt what the game may/may not sell. TRUE gamers just want a good game, despite what it sells. |
True gamers also want their favorite games to sell well.

As long as it sells enough to generate a profit, I'll be more than happy.

Why should they care? If the game is good enough, why should they sweat it's sales? I mean. sure, hopefully the game does well enough to warrant future IPs/and/or sequels, but that isn't the brunt of concern for most gamers. Let's ask the cult followers of Ico and SotC what they care about, GUARANTEE you, it aint sales.... "Selling well" can be defined by many things though, what YOU may deem as "selling well" at, for example: 1mill, may not ACTUALLY be "selling well" at all, and vice versa. That's why it's better to ENJOY the game vs worrying over something you have NO control over... This is what I find gamers this gen worry about more, if something sells 5 million copies. Who cares, if the game is no good (subjective btw), then it could sell 5 million and not be that good of a game. Sales =/= Quality, this is something that isn't very understood. |
I really don't understand what attracted you to a sales site.
It's the one single characteristic that separates VGC from all other gaming sites.

When did I say that sales were a bad thing? You generalize too much. I'm saying a game should be remembered for it's merits, not it's sales. Some of the best games in history have sold like utter crap compared to other games. It didn't stop them from being seen as the greatest games EVER now did it? Also, not everybody comes here JUST to see the sales charts, some people come for other things too ya know. Quit trying to turn everything into a negative, it's a lesson in subjectivity. You don't agree with me, that's fine. But I don't ask you what your purpose is being here do I, KNOWING you haven't exactly been know for positive HEAVY RAIN propoganda... I try not to go there with you, but you often push the wrong buttons and end up in these situations with people... |
What situations? Speak for yourself, it's you nitpicking and overexaggerating everything which could hint at something negative that causes these long arguments and quote stacks.
Okay, I was going to give my 2 cents regarding the discussion above, but seeing how it's turning into a heated argument, I'm going to withdraw.

^ All right, here goes:
Basically, I'm with CGI on this one. It's ok to disagree with someone about something, slime, but to ask him why he's here? That's very rude, and I don't blame him for getting a little nasty. These forums aren't all about discussing sales, it's for intelligent gamers. So he has a right to speak his opinion.
With that being said, about sales being important, I do see where you're coming from, as good sales = sequel usually. But the problem is, companies are all about milk milk milk now, and seeing some mediocre games get amazing sales, people are getting elitist, and want games they deem great to sell that much, since they think sales=great game. It's nice to have sequels, but they need improvement every time, and most companies don't do that.
CGI didn't say sales are unimportant completely. He shared my thoughts, which is that as long as the game brings in profits (doesn't need to be a megahit), then everything is good. That's it.

I don't even know what i'd consider a flop for this game... under 100K worldwide?
I mean it's a risky idea all together... and i don't think many if anyone will know what kind of game it actually is.

Yeah think it will hit 2 million at most.

Of course u can interpret it like Im questioning his existance on this site lol, but it wasnt meant to be read like that.
This topic goes long back in time. He keeps questioning people's motives for being fascinated by game sales, he does it all the time. It's only valid to question him back and ask why he keeps bringing up this objection on the only site that's focused on sales out of literally several hundreds of gaming sites out there.
Like myself, I got a language barrier so I'd be on a Swedish site if i just wanted to discuss games without the sales aspect. But Im here because there are other people here who are fascinated by the sales of video games and consoles.
Read again and u'll find out that it wasnt rude.
Also, remember the topic name of this very thread...
